So Jack has been a pretty good sleeper for many months now. He generally sleeps 11 hours straight at night. But in the last week or so he's been waking up every night. Why do you think that is?
Ronald has been doing the same. He has been waking up 4-6 times per night screaming. Sometimes he is unconsolable(hope that's spelled right LOL). The only thing I know of is that my little one is getting a new tooth on the bottom front, and it is hurting him while he is trying to sleep. Every time I went into his room, he would have at least a dinner plate size drool spot on the sheet below him (he sleeps on his belly no matter what I do). He has been having a rough time with this tooth. Ronald did this with his last tooth, but it stopped for about a week after it finally broke through, and started back on Sunday night along with the drooling. I too wish I knew of a way to just make him not be so miserable at night without having to medicate him.

Is Jack walking yet? My oldest's sleep would be disturbed right before he achieved a milestone. For example, just before he started crawling, at 6 months, he would wake up and start rocking in the bed on all fours. Then right before he walked, at 12 months, he would wake up and stand up in the bed. Both of mine also woke up more when they were cutting teeth.
I know all kids are different, but I always wait for Ben to be crying for ten full minutes before I check to make sure everything is OK. Sometimes he just wakes up yelling-- a toddler version of nightmares, I think-- but 95% of the time he is back to sleep in less than 5 minutes.(We once forgot to tell a babysitter not to go in there if he woke up crying, that was NOT good!) Teething is another story-- I know all kids really react differently to that, too... Tylenol works wonders though! If you don't already know about this book, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Marc Weisbluth's "Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child". I wish there was a 20 page pamphlet version because the book is really too long and not at all concise at around 300 pages, but the redundant reading is worth it-- the message of book is wonderful and is the reason I am a sane parent. Good Luck!!!
I think you guys are right. It's probably linked to his teething and walking. I know he's working on tooth #7 and he is taking more steps each day. A big time in the little guy's life! And Becca76 - I too loved that book and it helped me so much!
We are going through the same thing with Ben right now (7 months). He is able to sleep 9 hours at night, but two of the last four nights, he has waken up repeatedly through the night. Maybe he is getting another tooth...I don't know. My husband is trying to go get him so I don't have to nurse him...since we finally got rid of the night time nursings. He is starting to crawl, so maybe that could be contributing, too.
I also wanted to second the PP's recommendation for "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child"...It has been very helpful to us.
