Will hadn't pooped in the middle of the night in the longest time. I think he was only a month or maybe at most 2 months old when he stopped. Even though at that time he was pooping up to 8 times in a 24 hr period, he just never did it at night. And he was nursing at night then also.
Now all of a sudden Will has started pooping in the middle of the night again. He started sleeping through the night again pretty soon after we started the whole CIO thing. But there were several mornings that when he woke up and I changed his first diaper it was full of poop. This concerned me, because I didn't know how long it had been in there. Did it just happen when he woke up or had it been in there for hours?? I don't want him to sit in a poopy diaper all night and get diaper rash.
Well, the last few of nights he has started waking in the middle of the night again with a poopy diaper. After I change it, it can take an hour or 2 for him to finally go back to sleep. What could be causing him to poop at night again? Do you think it has something to do with the introduction of solids? Maybe he will stop after his digestive system has time to adjust to his new diet??

We had that problem on and off throughout our tot's first couple of years, too, and I don't know what causes it or what can really be done about it. All I know is, our son would do that every few nights for a few weeks, then stop for months and months. So all I can say is don't worry, it will probably stop soon and just be an occasional thing .

Ya know, now that you mention it, Jack has been waking with poop in his diaper. Probably for the last few weeks or so. The poop is fresh (TMI? LOL). So I figure it happens when he wakes up. This is gross, but...is the poop gooey and fresh or hardened? I usually change him immediately, but if Jack's poop has been in his diaper for any length of time, the consistency changes and it also sticks to his bum. Yuck. Gotta love poop talk!
I wondered why too. We eat dinner kind of late - b/t 6 and 7. That's b/c we want to have dinner as a family and my DH isn't home from work until then. I wondered if I should feed him earlier so maybe he'll poop before bed and clear himself out.
My hubby and I still talk about our kid's, uh, excretions (?!) . We just can't help ourselves, you know?! But it is kinda sad. We used to talk about politics and our dreams and all that - now we talk about the horrendous smell, frightening amount or unbelievable texture (I know!) of our kid's poop. Yuck!

I usually have dinner about 6. Ronald doesn't wake up with poop, but he does very soon after he gets moving. It is really kind of funny b/c he is so predictable. The child loves his routine.
I agree with Kristi about letting the consistantcy tell you whether it is recent. The few times Ronald has pooped on himself while asleep, if it was on him more than just a few minutes the consistancy would start to change, and it would stick to him really bad, and kind of looked dry. I know that sounds disgusting, sorry. Hope that helps

With kids and men especially, the poop obsession never ends. My 3 year old loves for me, still, to come and see her creation before she flushes it. Sometimes my 6 year old wants me to see hers and even more disgusting is that my 45 year old hubby wants me to gander at his on occassion. What is up with poop and that mom's know WAY TO MUCH about it all? Hee hee!
