Would you like to volunteer in the community to help local kids?

Here are some opportunities to do so:

Tuscaloosa City Schools:
-needs volunteers for the Important Individuals program to visit schools and encourage select youths to strive for excellence. Volunteers participate in various activities with the children.

Girl Scouts Tombigbee Council:
-needs volunteers to help with marketing, product sales, fundraising and to serve as troop leaders.

CHOM (Children's Hands-On Museum):
-needs volunteers for program assistance or floor work on exhibits who can commit to a recurring weekly schedule.

Kids on the Block:
-this is an educational puppet program that teaches children about disability awareness, medical and educational differences and social concerns. Volunteer to learn puppetry. No experience necessary.

Juvenile Mentoring Program:
-Juvenile Mentoring Program is seeking mentors for students in the 7th, 8th and 9th grades. Mentors must be 19 or older, h ave transportation and enjoy working with young people. The program is sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

Family Solutions:
-Family Solutions is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe environment for children to visit their family members who have court-ordered visitations. It needs volunteers to supervise the visits.

Department of Human Resources:
-The Alabama Department of Human Resources needs volunteer drivers for its Family and Children Service programs. Mileage will be reimbursed at 40.5 cents per mile. Volunteers must pass a background check and have a valid driver's license, insurance and reliable vehicle.

Foster Care:
-Brewer-Porch Children's Center Therapeutic Foster Care Program needs families interested in caring for emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children ages 5-18. Potential parents must be at least 25 and be willing to complete training.

Youth for Christ:
-Youth for Christ/Campus Life is in need of volunteers to help work with students in various club settings as well as volunteer with clerical duties. There is also room for volunteers within the monthly newsletter mailing.
