If you want to help local kids, here are what some child-oriented community organizations need:

Alabama Blues Project Blues Camp (teaches music and history to at-risk youth):
-electric guitars
-a drum kit
-an electric bass guitar
-small practice amps
-microphone stands
-microphones

The Girl Scouts Tombigbee Council (serves 11 West Alabama counties):
-children's life jackets
-child and adult-sized canoe paddles
-bunk beds
-brooms, mops
-DVD player
-rakes, shovels, buckets

Child Development Resources:
-cash donations to buy children's books for the Baby TALK program for families with children age 3 and under

The Stork's Nest (a pre-natal care program at Friendship Baptist Church):
-bookshelves
-a desk

Stitches from the Heart (donates handmade baby items to hospitals):
-needs volunteers to knit, crochet or quilt blankets, sweaters and hats for babies

Family Solutions (a nonprofit organization that provides a safe and secure environment for supervised visitation between children and family members who have court-ordered visitations).
-batteries
-new and used toys in good condition
-fruit juices
-art supplies
-tissue
-baby wipes
-toilet paper and paper towels

-non-perishable snacks for its children's groups
-bottled water or canned sodas and water
-paper products such as cups, plates, toilet paper, towels
-liquid hand soap
-disinfectant cleaning supplies
-8 1/2-by-11-inch and 8 1/2-by-14-inch card-stock paper
-a laminator
-D batteries
