Interesting debate. Pediatricians are worried the pilot of this new show airing Thursday will stop parents from immunizing their children. They say Americans trust medical information they see on TV shows and so ABC is being irresponsible.
What do you think?

No one can expect health information contained on fictional tv shows to be foundations for sound medical decisions. I suspect, if the legal outcome on the show went the other way, with the drug company winning, there would be no reaction from the AAP; yet would that represent accurate medical information provided by the network?
The issue of the link between vaccines and autism and other diseases is NOT settled, and for the AAP to make a statement referring to the "myth" of the connection is irresponsible information dissemination itself, in my opinion.

I agree. I would hope that anyone would know not to rely on medical information they see on TV. I don't feel like the network is responsible for poor judgment. I also agree that we don't know for sure that it's a "myth". But either way it is crazy to accept anything you see on TV as fact, especially on a fictional TV program.
