Ok, so...
I know we all think we have the smartest child...
But I really do. lol
My little one is so bright and has the best memory, but for some reason is having a difficult time with colors. He was 2 in July and as I said, picks up on things so quickly. (abc's, numbers- both chronilogically and by sight, ect.) but for some reason we are having difficulty with this. Anyone else? I wondered if this is something to mention to our ped. or if this is normal? Talk to me ladies. Smiler

My oldest was a bright baby... 15 years later, still bright! But, I had the same problem. He knew abc'c and numbers and small words by age 2. But, colors were another thing. I don't know if it was just a concept he wasn't ready to grasp or what. But, I did start identifying more things by color... the lady in the red shirt, etc. My miracle teaching tool came in the form of M&M's!!! Put different colored ones in your hand and say "You can have a red (blue/green/yellow)one!" It worked for us.

Hey, I know I'm a little late on this, but my son is just the opposite!
He knew almost a dozen colors by the time he was two, and knows even more now that he's almost three, even though we never pushed at all. But he STILL doesn't know the difference between a 2 and a 3 (or any numbers, really!) and can't ID a single alphabet letter.
I know he'll do it when he's ready, though, and I don't think there's any reason to push him or even "encourage" him with treats.
I've read that it makes no difference, anyway - kids make similar grades, whether they learn all their basics by age two or figure them out later, bit by bit.
"Learning" to play & pretend is much more important than memorizing stuff, at this age.
Just my opinion, though, I guess.
