I hope all your LOs have a great first day of school!
How did this morning go at your house?
Was your LO going to school for the first time?

My oldest started the big K today. I am still nervous right now, I cant concentrate on my work, I am getting nothing done, I am just bummed! I took him to his class and he just sat there all shy like and it brought back memories for me and the empty feeling I had when I went to school when I was that young. But he of course, unlike me, went to preschool so I know that helps him out alot. I think I am having a harder time than he is! He said he was excited and nervous all rolled into one. I will just be glad when this week and next week is over, I am sure we will be used to it by then!

I'm with HollyAnn. I wish the butterflies in my tummy would go away. All I can think about is what is she doing, is she okay. Will she know when to eat her snack, and when to eat her lunch, etc, etc.....

I'm sure though she is doing much better than I. It's just sad to think she's not a baby anymore.

My friend has a daughter in my son's class so she let me know how he was doing first thing this morning, he was doing fine. I am worried about if he is hungry, he wouldn't eat for me this morning. He ate one pretzel and some OJ, not healthy at all. I told him to eat breakfast at school if he was hungry. I know they have morning snack, but he doesn't eat until 12:40 and i feel so guilty eating my lunch right now. I am actually crying for the first time, I finally got the other two down for rest time and it just hit me. I can't wait until he gets home! I need a hug from him.

My 1st grader was ready to go this morning, but Will started K today and was quiet walking in. He went to pre-k last year and knows the routine but.....
Thankfully he didn't cry and went right to his seat, but I am watching the clock so I can pick them up and be reassured they really are ok.

My oldest started K this morning and did great. His best friend from preschool is in his class and he was really excited to already have a friend. He was upset though that they only went a half day today. He can't wait till tomorrow so he gets to stay all day.

My 2 1/2 year old started preschool Tuesday morning. He is going 2 mornings a week. He did great both days going but was really upset at pickup time. When my dad picked him up on Tuesday, he got hysterical wanting mama. Today I picked him up and he was upset wanting dada (who dropped him off). He also wanted poppa (my dad) and was upset when his baby brother wasn't in the car. Hopefully he will adjust and do better at pick up.

It wasn't quite as stressful for my LO today because she's in second grade now, so this is sort of old hat for her. She told me she was kinda nervous, though, because she was in the same class with the same teacher and classmates for kindergarten and first grade. So she's worried about having a new teacher and having to make new friends. It's compounded by the fact that she's not even in the "right" class until Tuesday. We found out at open house that her school had so many second-graders that they had to hired a new teacher at the last minute, so we won't meet her actual teacher until Tuesday. I'm sure she'll be fine, and in both classes she'll have at least a couple of kids she knows already, but it's all a little bit frustrating.

Just so you know - this coming from a teacher's point of view, and one that teaches the entire population of an 1100 student elementary school, we take extra special care of our Kindergarteners!! Or anyone new or lost, for that matter!

I know that on the first week of school, especially the very first day, we are extra special careful and have everyone on "big sister/brother" alert, our 4th and 5th graders wander halls looking for anyone standing and crying and confused and we ralley to give them a hug and some help. We walk them through their day playing games and making rules and just having some fun time. Every time they come to me, in art, I sit them in a circle and we talk about our favorite colors and just go real slow and easy with procedures for the art room. I know that each and every activity teacher does the same. If a child is not willing to leave their teacher's side, they don't have to, not on the first day. School is a big deal and a big place and just know that we are on alert and ready to help and always do.
