Yes, this is awful. Especially sad is the loss of the foreign language classes. Everything we know about second language acquisition says earlier is better - elementary or earlier being preferable even to starting in middle school. But waiting until high school to begin foreign language learning goes against what we know to be true about how children learn. It's pitiful and I sincerely hope that things improve before mine get to middle school age.
