Do you ladies have any advice for teaching LOs not to hit?
Jack doesn't do it often but sometimes he will hit me. Then when I tell him no he just does it again. He thinks it's funny. I hold his hands and say no and show him that I'm upset with him by using a stern tone. He doesn't seem phased.
I want to nip this in the bud!!

Have you started having time out? Or even a naughty chair or something like that?

Sometimes taking him away from whatever he is doing shows him that you mean business. I know that Supernanny says to put them there for a minute of every year of their age - so Jack would probably only need a minute - maybe two.

We have a corner in our house that is our time out spot, and if they get in trouble they stay there until the timer goes off. If they move before then - it gets set back until they complete the whole time.

I know it sounds harsh for a LO - but if you start letting him know about the consequences it may help nip it in the bud.

Kristi, our son went through a very brief period of hitting around age 2, and we started time outs then and nipped it in the bud very quickly. But we used it sparingly and only when we really meant it, so I think he got the point quickly. And now that the kids are older, we use time out as our primary behavior correction technique.
