So what's everyone's take on prenatals?
When I had Jack I didn't take prescription vitamins. I bought generic ones. And Jack is healthy and smart.
Friends have told me they've taken prescription ones and felt sick on them. Not to mention the cost. Other friends did just fine on them.
What do you think? What did you do?

I have never taken the prescription ones either, and like Kristi, I had heard from friends that they made them sick. I've always gotten mine at Manna, and with my first pregnancy my dr. took a look at the bottle and said they looked fine to him.

I took generic, then I took the RX ones and got sick. So I started taking 2 Flintstones. They seemed to have worked just fine (when I could remember to take them) and didn't make me sick. So far, my DD hasn't had any problems and the few problems she has had (reflux) I hardly think vitamins have anything to do with but who knows.

I had horrible all-the-time sickness the first, oh 5 months of pregnancy. I couldn't even think of a smell or anything and I would lose my lunch. My ob gave me a prescription for a prenatal vitamin that was made for bad m/s that had extra B vitamins and that worked. But if I had not had to take those I definately would have found another source of vitamins, not only for cost but because they are friggin huge and a huge pill does not go well with m/s.

My OBGYN just recently told me that the store bought prenatals are okay but he recommends adding an additional folic acid supplement. Most prenatals have 800 mcg of folic acid, but he said research has shown that women wanting to have children actually need a higher dose.

I took both prescription and store brand. I took the store brand when I ran out of my script, because the script had extra iron in it.

When I was pregnant my doctor told me there was really not much difference in prescription prental vitamins and the ones from the store. She said she'd advies just getting some at the store and saving my money so thats what I did. Lily is doing fine and very smart if you ask me!

First trimester = took nothing, threw everything up
Second trimester = took store brand
Third trimester = took nothing again, got constipated

Same for both pregnancies - both girls are fine, insane like me!!

I didn't take any. I threw up everything - including the vitamins, so my doc said to try Flintstones, but I threw them up too, so I went without prenatal vit. for the whole pregnancy and Caden is healthy and smart. I know that if they didn't bother me, I would have taken them, but I wouldn't worry about it if you can't take them.
