This is the big question on my mind lately. I'm trying to figure out when we should have #2. I think we'd like our kids to be about 2 years apart or so. Which means this year is a TTC year. But I'm thinking summer/fall. Just when I feel like I've gotten into a groove with #1 and I've got my body back, I need to do it all again? Yikes. And what will it be like to juggle two?
If anyone else is in this boat, here's some info from babycenter.com:

I feel you. My hubby is already asking about when we are going for #2. I told him I can't imagine being prego again yet. Not that I don't want a second, but I still remeber like it was yesterday being sooooo exhausted, staying up all night, doing everything by myself (no help from the fam). I can't forget enough of it to convince myself I am ready for another. It is still to fresh. Besides that, I am kind of afraid to have another after my first being sooo big, and being soooo miserable almost my entire pregnancy.

Family doesn't help either, asking and pressuring us about when we are going to have another. In my head I tell them; We will have another as soon as you want to chip in on daycare costs. LOL!!! Any of you get that?

I really dunno what to do....or when I will be ready....

I have wanted another for a LONG time pretty much about 2month after I had our daughter. BUT timing was never right, finacially and all the jazz. Then when I FINALLY got my body back (it only took 2 1/2 years) and I wanted to enjoy clothes again. Then this summer dh and I decided that timing was NEVER going to be exactly right SOO therefor we decided to go ahead and have another. I DEFINITELY suggest waiting a couple of years.. maybe not 4 but more than 1 or 2.

Jessica, ROTFL about your ticker! That's a riot! How are you feeling, btw?

And...I know what you mean. Now that I have my body back I'm like, "Ugh, do I have to get pregnant again and blow up?" LOL.
When I have our 2nd, Jack will be 2. I'd probably wait a bit longer if I was younger. But who knows if we want a third. And I'm not gettin' any younger! (unfortunately)

I waited 15 years between mine!
I wouldn't recommend it, but I guess I did have a good long time to get my figure back and enjoy it! Boy, those were the days ...

Hi, I am new to this site and as I was browsing through. This topic caught my eye. I have a 23 month old little boy and I am ready to ttc #2. Like everyone else I am worried about the timing. I do not want our kids to be 2 far apart or 2 close together. My little boy is a VERY active toddler and never stops. This make me worry that a 2nd child will over whelm me. Unfortunately I have to factor in my job too. I work full time as the assistant to the owner of a retail/rental company. We travel every September for a company meeting. Since I plan every detail of this meeting I have to go. Therefore, I also have to plan around it. I think we are going to ttc sometime in June of '09. This will put out kids close to 4 years apart. I wonder if that is 2 far apart.

Welcome ahensel!!!
I think I met you Saturday and took a picture of your adorable little boy, didn't I? Smiler
It sounds like you have a lot to factor in. Good luck figuring it all out.
FYI:
My husband and his brother are 4 years apart and they are super close, had a wonderful childhood and are part of a close-knit group of mutual childhood friends. So I don't think it's too far apart at all, IMHO.

I know that everyone struggles with this topic - and in reality there is no real "right" answer.

I am one of four - and we are all 3 1/2 years apart - and are close as can be. But I have also met others who are the same distance in age and it isn't the same case.

I have three - 4 year old boy, 2 year old girl, and 6 month old boy. (Can we say my hands are full?) I was afraid when my daughter was born that my oldest would be too rough with her and hurt her - but it was actually the opposite. They are the best of friends and now dote on their little brother. If anything - I'm fearful that they'll hurt him from loving on him too much. I'm just hoping that they stay this way!

My DH and I decided we would wait to have another one till aroud the time our first one will be potty trained. So, we're thinking about 2 1/2 years apart.

But, I'm starting to want another one NOW. I know that's crazy because our 1st is only 7 months old! But, we're already in "baby mode" and the closer we have them together the fewer total years I'll spend as a SAHM. Not that I don't enjoy being a SAHM, I just don't want to do it forever. We want 2 (maybe 3) kids and want me to stay home with them till the youngest is around 3.

Oh, well...there isn't really any point in DH and I debating this quite yet! I'm still BF'ing the 1st and my monthly visitor is still on vacation, so it's pobablly unlikely I could even get pregnant right now.

My first and second are 4 years apart, and that has worked out great for us. My oldest was old enough to understand what was going on and actually help a little when his little sister came along. As I've mentioned in other posts, I have practiced extended breastfeeding, and I had to get that and diapers out of the way before I could even think about another.
And SarahMay, with both of mine, right around 9 or 10 months I would start thinking I might like another, but then they'd start walking and by 14 months I was so thankful I hadn't done it yet because they become a different kind of handful when they're fully mobile! Smiler
But it is a personal decision for each family, and there are so many considerations that are often different for everyone.

Hey Kristi, I did meet you on Saturday. I am glade that my sister drug me out to the mall. I love what you are doing on here. I wish that someone would have told me about this site earlier. I know everyone is telling me that there is never a perfect time to ttc. It really doesn't help when you have baby fever either. Smiler

My DH has baby fever. I told him it is because he didn't carry an 11 pound baby around. HEE HEE! Really, I do want another child. I just want the first one almost out of diapers before we ttc #2. I just can't imagine changing all those diapers. AHHHH! Big Grin

My mind is just not ready to go through preggo and the first few months again yet.

I'm glad she dragged you out too, mommy2hayden! Big Grin
And - my DH has total baby fever too!!!!
I'm not mentally there. Though I'm getting semi-close. He made me shake on a deal to start in August. But that was after a few too many glasses of wine. So I can take it back, I think, if I plead temporary (drunken) insanity. LOL
