Hi All, Does anyone have any good advice for clearing up Cradle Cap? My LO has had it since he was about 4 months, it was worse then but he still has some now and he is 11 months. The Dr isnt concerned but it is very unsightly since he doesnt have much hair to cover it up. I have been doing the shampooing and rubbing it with a baby hair brush like the Dr said but it isnt doing much and I really want it gone. Any advice for getting rid of it would be very much appreciated!

Jack had it too and he didn't have any hair to cover it up (still doesn't!). I used baby oil with a baby brush and it did wonders.

When Amelia had it we used the cradle crap (as I like to call it) special shampoo they sell. I can't remember the brand, but it's in a light greenish blue bottle, it's by the baby shampoos. I think it's called gentle something or the other. Helpful, I know, but I think you'll find it easily.
That stuff makes their scalp smell awful, but it did help. I also just picked it off when I would see it :-) |

LOL...I called it cradle crap, too, basically because I kept getting tongue tied and saying crp instead of cap. Then it just stuck.
Will had cradle cap for a short time when he was around a month or 2 old. We had been using that Johnson's all in one baby wash that is for their body and hair. I stopped using that on his head and started using regular baby shampoo. I also scrubbed his head with a soft infant hair brush each time I washed his hair. It went away in a week or so. I have no idea if it was caused by the baby wash or if it was just a coincidence, but never came back. |

My youngest had cradle cap for a long time. Dr. Farmer gave us a prescription for cream. We had to put baby oil a little before her bath, then wash with just a dab of selsun blue(it will sting their eyes so be careful) then we put the cortisone cream on after the bath.

When my son had I did what Kristi describes, except with Vaseline instead of baby oil. It cleared right up and thankfully wasn't a problem again.

alyssa still has a tiny little bit so i ask her dr. when she had her 9 mts visit. he said use a little selson(sp) blue, its just like the rx stuff.
brushing or combing their hair alot is suppose to help clear that up and prevent as well. Niki, wife to Thatcher, mommy to Jacob(5), Alex(3), and Alyssa(11mts) |

Update ~ I tried the baby oil gel after his bath and the next morning I used a baby comb and combed over it and one of the larger cradle cap flakes came off and it had a very little bit of his hair stuck in it!!! It totally freaked me out at first then later after I thought it over I figured that might have been his newborn hair that just got dried in the cradle cap stuff when he was smaller and it was stuck. I dunno, I still get the chills when I think about it but it didnt hurt him at all. I finally got most of it off of his head now and the other larger flake spot did the same thing with the hair in it and all. Cradle cap is so nasty to me after that experience. But where the cradle cap was it still had no hair there like it hasnt been growning since he had cradle cap, I hope it starts growning soon. I dont know why it would not have grown under the cradle cap, it is not like his hair needs sunlight to grow. What do yall think? Did I destroy my kids head and future chances for him to have hair in that spot?

My LO had it really bad too. Our pediatrician recommended Selsum blue to wash his hair and it worked like a charm. Just a small dab when we washed his hair did the trick. Our pedi said the body soap/shampoo was really drying to the scalp and made it worse.
