they didn't say. lol

i guess i never gave it much thought cause we still have disposible ones on hand also. so if we have to use diaper rash stuff, she wears a disposible.

we do both also. she wears her cloth diapers at home, during naps. but if we go somewhere or overnight, we put on disposibles.

The cloth diapers I ordered finally came in Sunday. I've used them for 2 days now. The very first one I used leaked out the leg opening. I started putting them on a little tighter and using the doublers, and I haven't had that problem again. I wasn't expecting the diapers to be so bulky. They won't even fit under a lot of Will's clothes. Maybe they won't be quite so bulky after he grows into them a little more. I bought the toddler size and they are big on him, but they work good. Anyway, they are good diapers and it's a good price, but I'm going to try them for a little while longer before I decide if I want to order more or not. I haven't tried one overnight yet, because I wash all 5 of them at night after Will's asleep so they will be ready for the next day. I've still had to use about 3 disposables per day for the past 2 days, since I only have 5 cloth diapers and I don't want to have to wash them more than once per day. I'd like to have enough cloth ones to only wash every other day.

yay! I had started another thread about this, and then I found this one! First... I had been cloth diapering about four months when I took the diapers down to BabyTalk and showed the owner, Christine. I was amazed when she started carrying them! At first, I used mostly pocket diapers (bumGenius, FuzziBunz, Pocket Change) and now I've moved into fitteds. Ummmm I'm kind of an addict! I do buy and sell mine online, so when I get tired of one, I move on to another. I also used disposables at night and when we went out. I am now officially using cloth full time and haven't bought a pack of 'sposies since Easter. Yay! Here's my DD's stash:

There are SO many, many brands out there. Right now, I use fitteds at home, coverless. I like to feel when she's wet and change her. We use bumGenius's or Snap-EZ pockets at night, with BabyKicks Hemparoo prefolds for inserts. Hemp is SUPER absorbant! My lifeline is DiaperPin.com, where I "hang out" with other CDing mamas. I've learned so much from them! My favorite fitted is a goodmama, but they are super hard to snag. thegoodmama.com

I'm so glad to hear that some other mamas are using cloth! I love doing diaper laundry. The heck with the rest of the laundry, but YAY for diaper laundry! lol

Ok.. I'll shut up now. Can't you tell I get excited. I seriously need an Intervention. Razzer

Wow!! That's a lot of diapers!

I haven't even been using cloth diapers for a full week yet and we only have 5 right now. What do you do about diaper rash? I'm always reading that babies in cloth diapers get diaper rash less, but I think they may actually be giving Will diaper rash. He's always been prone to diaper rash, but just in his butt crack. It was worse when he was a newborn and pooping with every feed. Now that he goes less it's a lot better, but it still flares up if I don't use Desitin several times a day. He's never had a problem at all with diaper rash in the front of the diaper area, but he has started turning red all around his boy parts, especially in the crease where his legs meet his body, and also all the way back to his butt. (sorry if that's too much info) I've got disposable on him now and he slept in a disposable last nigh. It seems to be getting better, but he is still a little red. Anyway, I'm not sure if it's being caused because the cloth diapers aren't as absorbent as the disposables, so his skin is exposed to more urine or maybe I'm not getting the diapers clean enough. Although I thought I was changing him often enough and his diapers look and smell clean to me when I take them out of the wash. I'd appreciate any thoughts you have on this! Smiler

We are about to start using fitteds and prefolds when we are at home, so I'll prolly have some questions then too! lol
I'll have to check out those sites! Thanks. I usually hang out over at diaper swapers.

I hang out at DS, too... I'm Blue3Pink1 there.. and I'm usually wherever we are talking about goodmamas. lol But my "home" diaper forum is DiaperPin. I've learned so much from those mamas!

As far as diaper rash goes, what are you washing with? Some people say their babies have reactions to the enzymes in detergent. Luckily, we don't have those problems. http://pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoicesataglancepspd.htm This site had the best recommendations. And there's Planet Ultra at Manna. There are some diaper creams that you can use with cloth, but I think the easiest thing to do is use Viva Paper Towels as a liner. Then, you can use whatever cream you'd like, and not worry about ruining your diapers. Just toss the paper towel at each change. No.. not good for the environment, but better than a whole sposie.

I buy seconds. Most of the time, you can't even FIND what's wrong!! It's usually a serging flaw, or something like that. I think the really whack mistakes they don't even sell, you know???

I'm so happy to know there's mamas on my train here in Tuscaloosa. All my friends completely make fun of me about my cloth. Frowner

Rootie, that is quite an impressive diaper collection you have!
Sarah May, the detergent suggestion is a good one. I probably have mentioned that use seventh generation unscented natural liquid for all my laundry, and I've never had any trouble with it irritating the babies or anything. The other thing to consider is that maybe the wet or poop is sitting on him too long. If you're used to using dipsosables, then you might be used to much longer intervals in between changings than you will have to do with cloth.

rootie- Thanks for the tips. Dumb question- does it have to be Viva paper towels or can I just use whatever I have? I've been using All Free and Clear. It is free of fragrance and dyes, but I don't know about enzymes. Enzymes aren't specifically listed in the ingredients. It just lists cleaning agents, brighting agents, etc. And who knows what those "agents" are made up of.

LawMommy- I thought I was changing him frequently enough, but maybe not. I'm changing him about the same number of times as I did when I was using all disposables, so maybe I should be changing him more often now. Although, I've noticed that when I'm around friends and their babies (all in disposables) I seem to change Will a lot more frequently than most of them do.

It would be nice if you could use other paper towels, but they will just fall apart. Viva are the only ones that will stay together.

Or... you can buy cheap pieces of fleece from Walmart. I bought like a 1/2 yard of fleece and cut it up in liner sized pieces.

I've used doubler inserts, the kind you wash, and I never had trouble with using diaper rash cream as well, so maybe it's just me, but I still say use cream when you need it and don't worry about it.
As for how often to change, I would say as soon as you notice the diaper is wet, change him. Especially if you're noticing irritation up front. Maybe that will help?

rootie- the only ones I have right now are bumgenius. I really like those. I went to the goodmama website and I really think I would like them, too, however I can not pay that much for one diaper! And I got on ebay and they are going for more than $50.00! Eeker Are they new? I was thinking that maybe they are just the newest thing so maybe they will be easier to come by in the future. What's your second favorite?

I'm using Kushie all-in-ones. It's basically the only AIO diaper I can even come close to being able to afford. I think I already posted this earlier in the thread, but here is a link to them:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4601013
They are much cheaper from Wal-mart than any of the cloth diaper websites and even cheaper than Ebay. I think with Ebay sometimes people just get caught up in the bidding process and want to win so bad they, end up paying more for an item than they should.

As to weather or not diaper rash cream will leave a film, maybe it depends on the quality of your washing machine or the type of detergent you use or maybe the type of diaper rash cream itself. I've been using the Kushies diaper doubler inserts, too. Personally, I really don't care if they get stained by diaper rash cream, so I've been using it anyway. How many people are ever going to be looking at the inside of my kid's diaper, anyway? But, I think I can tell that it is actually leaving a film, not just a stain.

So, I'm going to use disposables just for the next couple of days (till the rash is completely gone) and than try the cloth again and make sure I'm changing his as soon as he's wet. I guess I won't be able to use the cloth over night, because he'll stay we too long.
