Thanks for the tips!
We've been using cloth all week and, ya know, it's not as hard as I thought it would be. ![]() |

Great! Yeah, with the modern day cloth diapers, it's really not bad at all.

I just bought some cloth diapers today. I got the bum genius ones that are all in one. I don't know that I am planning on making a completed switch, but I figure every little bit helps. I am talking moneywise and environmentally. Alec has one on now so we'll see how it goes.

That's what we used! I like those. They are soooo soft. I can only imagine that Jack loved the feel of them.
I am thinking of doing half and half. Let me know what you think!! ![]() |

Good luck mom2alec! It's really not hard once you get into the swing of it. I would recommend using a doubler at night or on a prolonged outing, or if your son is a heavy wetter, then all the time. Here is an example...

Thanks! Actually, he is not really a heavy wetter, even at night. Sometimes his diaper is almost dry in the morning. I know night time is one of the main times I am going to use the cloth, and any other time when I am at home. After hearing Kristi's story about the horrible cloth daiper incident at a restaraunt, I am scared to go out anywhere with them. But maybe after a little practice I will feel more comfortable.

We love our cloth diapers. I bought our 1st ones at the baby talk store. We wear fuzzy bunz, swaddle bees, and berry plush. Berry plush is awesome, they are this mink stuff and it is soooo soft. I wish I could wear them.
They're just way expensive, which is why we don't have many berry plush's. Here's my fave berry plush. OH and we don't wear our out anymore either. Nasty inncedent in old navy talked me out of out of going out in them again!! LOL Niki, wife to Thatcher, mommy to Jacob(5), Alex(3), and Alyssa(11mts) ![]() |

hey also the bum genious ones and fuzzi bunz, last time i went, at baby talk are pocket diapers. they are a little bit cheaper than aio's. you have to put the stuff the insert in the inside of the diaper and yes you do have to change the entire diaper when he wets.
I think on some of the aio's you can buy just the inserts so you don't have to change the whole diaper, just snap in another insert. And we continued to use regular baby wipes. Also if your baby is bf, they say their poop is water soluble so you don't even have to rinse out the diaper, it'll just rinse away in the wash. kinda sounds gross, huh?! when you wash them, use plain, no fragrance laundry detergent. AND NO fabric softners!! It'll ruin the absorbancy of the diapers. And one more thing, you're not suppose to use any kind of diaper rash stuff or anything with the cloth diaper, it can also effect how absorbing the diapers will continue to be. First off, mluvsjaa, that picture is PRECIOUS. It should be framed!
And mom2alec, I didn't mean to scare you! I was just so new to it that I was like a deer-in-headlights. I'm sure if I did this all the time I would have taken it in stride. I also would have had one of those scented baggies to store them in. I think that was my main problem. I didn't know what to do with it. LOL ![]() |

I guess I will need to carry some of those scented bags in my diaper bag again. I did it for a while but ran out and just never got any more. Well, when Alec got up from his nap he had a poopoo diaper. My first cloth diaper to change and it was poopoo!!! But it wasn't too bad. One of the main problems I have with cloth is that they are so expensive. And Baby Talk is where I got mine. The one piece diapers were 15.95 and the ones with inserts were 17.95, but came with the inserts. If I really like them I will go get more.

if you check online they will have some on sale.
We got Alyssa's swaddle bee's last november for like $12! There are also cloth diaper forums/sites where people sell used cloth diapers. I don't know much about how that works out, we've never went that route, but I know thats available. And you can always go with the ones that require covers. They are cheaper than the pocket diapers or aio's. And they make some super super cute one's at that!! here's a couple of my favorite diaper sites. www.CutieTooties.com www.cottonbabies.com Niki, wife to Thatcher, mommy to Jacob(5), Alex(3), and Alyssa(11mts) |

I've always bought mine online too. My favorite AIO's are Kushie's but it's been close to two years since I was diapering and I know there are more and more coming on the market all the time. Buying multi-packs can help with the prices too.
http://www.thanksmama.com/Kushies_Ultra_All_in_One_Diap..._Packs_p/ksh-002.htm As for the issue of using cloth diapers when you go out, we only used cloth diapers, so I'm not sure I really understand the problem. How is it different from using disposables when you're out? I don't know about scented bags, but I usually kept a plastic bag in my diaper bag to put any dirty diaper into, and that seemed to work all right. I guess not knowing any differently - we did cloth diapers from the first day we brought our first LO home - it didn't seem as hard as maybe it is trying to transition after using disposables. |

Mom2alec, how goes the cloth?

It's going really well. We have been doing about half and half. I only have 4 cloth diapers because that's all I could afford right now. So I am having to wash them every night and reuse them the next day. But really it is not that bad. And lawmommy was right about going out in them, at least so far. It really hasn't been any different then disposable diapers. So I will probably get a few more and use them until he's potty trained, and then use them for the next baby, whenever that might be.
