Is your infant or toddler getting enough Vitamin D? A recent study says probably not if you breastfeed and always cover him/her in sunblock.

Check out this story for more info.

You know, I think about this sometimes when we're outside. I'm so quick to cover Jack in sunblock but I know he could use some of the Vitamin D from the sun. A few times I've gone outside and just sat with him for 5 minutes without sunblock just so he could get some Vitamin D from the sun. But I'm so paranoid he's going to burn, especially here in the south where it's so hot, that I don't do it often or for long.
This article says to expose a baby to 30 minutes of sun a day. I think my fair-skinned baby would probably burn if I did that. I will not be taking that advice.

I'm really concerned about this also. I've heard that fair-skinned babies need 45 minutes to an hour each week in the sun for that reason. My pedi says 20-30 minutes once or twice a week should be fine. You could also do maybe 10 minutes or less everyday.
Of course dark-skinned babies need a lot more time in the sun to get their Vitamin D.
