Aaaaack!
What happened to my calm, cool, collected (for the most part) baby?
I think I have officially entered the tantrum phase.
HELP!
Today he threw a record 3 tantrums before his nap. The first was because I had to put him down to get his milk. The second was because he fell and wanted mommy, not daddy. The third was because he didn't want his lunch, except he did. He sat and ate it just fine but not until he made a big show of dramatically refusing it, turning in his chair and screaming and crying.
WTH??

Kristi- I am soooo right there with you! Olivia (17M) has started throwing terrible tantrums everytime she doesn't get her way. I am doing my best to just ignore them but WOW does it stress me out.

She is constantly doing stuff that she knows she isn't supposed to, I'll go over and stop her and tell her no and she'll lay down on the floor and throw a fit and then go back to doing it again. She has a very determined and stubborn personality so this can go on for a LONG time.

Also, she loves the word NO right now and says it anytime she doesn't want to do something followed by crying and whinning.

Can you tell I am ready for this phase to pass?

When he's mad about something his entire face gets red and he screams at the top of his lungs. It's quite frightening looking (and sounding). Now he's learning different types of tantrums. Sweet. LOL.

I'm not looking forward to this either! Will doesn't have real tantrums yet, but he does throw "little fits" sometimes and he turns bright red.

Oh yes. We have those here also. And think, the fits he used to throw I called tantrums..huh. not. We now know the meaning of red-faced,throw things,scream at top of lungs,stomp feet,then throw himself down onto the ground tantrums. Who knew. And over the littlest of things. Sometimes I tell him to can the dramatics and that works. Other times I get the evil face.
Nothing says fun like having the neighbors staring at you as if you are beating your child while he screams bloody murder and throws himself down onto the grass simply because you said it was time to go inside. Oh happy days.

My overtired 6 year old threw a tantrum on me yesterday. She did not sleep well the night before so she was tired already, when I picked her up from school she melted. She was like a 2 year old again, except she used words and phrases that cut to the quick . . . things like, I hate you and school sucks. I just let her vent, showed no emotion, and then it passed and she was her normal self again all evening and then dropped like a rock at 7:30pm!

p.s. - She was my night terrors child - anyone witness these things? Talk about scary!!

Olivia's tantrums are getting worse too. Now she gets mad, turns red, arches her back and throws herself backwards to the ground kicking and hitting while screaming and yelling NO NO NO. I have to try and get my hand behind her head to keep her from slaming her head into our hardwood/tile floors. I try my best to ignore her and she usually calms down and gets over it. I think most of it is she is frustrated about not being able to communicate what she is feeling.

sorry guys... welcome to the terrible 2 and 3s . we are still coping with Katie's but they are getting better. you just have to stand firm with them. They are testing the waters to see how far they can go.
