we had the same problem with weight with my oldest Jacob, now almost 6, when he was 9 mts. he hadn't gained any weight, completly dropped off the charts, he was always in the 10th % anyway. the peds we had at the time were test crazy, and were determined for something to be wrong because he was little, so we had had several diff test by the time he was there at his 9 mts visit. they then sent us for a cystic fibrosis test which was neg like we knew it would be. we have had a couple diff peds since then(due to moving) and not one has ever mentioned his weight and he is fine and still a skinny little man!! lol
as for the juice, we have always given half and half. Niki, wife to Thatcher, mommy to Jacob(5), Alex(3), and Alyssa(11mts) |

This isn't really about weight gaining, but I have a daughter that is 8months old and she has gotten to where she will refuse her bottles during the day(we tried BF, but it did not work out). She will only take a bottle at night before bed time during the day she wants juice or water. In the mornings I will use her formula to fix her oatmeal, just so I know that she is getting some milk(formula). She too already eats baby food 3x's a day and usually she eats 3 jars at each feeding, expect for breakfast and she eats oatmeal and a jar of fruit. I took her to the dr. for an ear infection a few days ago and she was 20lbs., but I was wondering if it was normal for a baby to not want to take a bottle anymore? My boys never did this until they were about 11months.

are you tryin to feed her the formula before or after she eats the 3 jars of food?
She may be getting too full on food to drink. My sil's baby is 6.5 months and he has started the not eating thing as well. she is bf, but losing it cause he isn't eating as much, and he will not eat much baby food either. Babies are just crazy when it comes too food huh?! Alyssa eats more than either of our boys did and she is the smallest! She's only 15lbs and she's 11 mts! 3Blessings, I would have to say I think the not wanting to bottle feed may be because of the ear infection. Ronald had several bad ear infections and had tubes at 10 months old. Every time his ear would hurt, he would refuse his bottle cup etc... I agree with mluvsjaa about giving the bottle when she's hungry and not after she has eaten. You might try to not feed her as much food to see is she will boost her milk consumption.
But she may just be ready to move on to real food. IMHO, as long as she is getting a couple of larger (8 ounces or so) bottles a day, I wouldn't worry to much. You might could also try putting the formula in a cup for her instead of a bottle. If she is getting juice or water in the cup, she may want to take everything from the cup. Hope any of that helps! |

I agree with the other suggestions. She's probably too full from all the baby food to have room left for formula. Or maybe she prefers her sippy cup (if you're using one) to her bottle.
Also, maybe she doesn't like the taste of the formula. Will has formula occasionally (because I'd have to pump a ton of times to get 8ozs) when I leave him with my MIL or DH and won't be back in time for his next feeding. He's used to taking bottles, because he used to get 3 a day before I quit to stay home with him. Once he started refusing the bottles. I switched to a different brand of formula and we haven't had that problem again. I'm wondering how much baby food does an average 8 month old eat? At Will's 6 month check-up the ped said I could basically just feed him as much fruit and vegs as he will eat because most of them are pretty low in calories. But, I've also read that if you feed too much baby food it will replace breast milk (or formula) in their diet, rather than supplement it, leading to poor weight gain, because breast milk has more calories than most baby foods. The nurse I spoke to yesterday suggested cereal and fruit for breakfast, a fruit and a veg for lunch, and a veg and cereal for dinner. She said he should be eating about 2 jars total per day plus the cereal (she didn't say how much cereal). Will has been eating 1/2 a jar of fruit at breakfast and some oatmeal, a whole jar of vegs at lunch, and a whole jar of one of those dinners that has vegetables and meat in it at dinner. If he hasn't started to slow down at all towards the end of a meal, I'll give him about 1/2 of another jar of fruits or vegs. So, he usually eats about 3 jars total in a day. He also sometimes has some puffs or a rice rusk (similar to a rice cake) for a snack. Does his diet and quantities seem OK to you, ladies? |

sounds about right to me, lol
Alyssa has a 6oz bottle, cereal, and a #1 fruit for breakfast, for lunch 4oz bottle, 1 or 2 #2 veggies for snack, 4oz juice and then some kind of gerber snack thingie for dinner 6oz bottle and 1 or 2 #2 veggies and she drinks a 6oz bottle to go nite nite and usually gets up once at night and we are down to a 5 oz bottle Neither one of my boys ever ate as much as she does!! lol Niki, wife to Thatcher, mommy to Jacob(5), Alex(3), and Alyssa(11mts) |
