Does anybody have suggestions for snacks for a 10 month old who has 2 bottom teeth? I have tried the Gerger Graduate wagon wheels and he puts the whole thing in his mouth and scares me to death! He does okay with the small puffs. Other than that we have only tried some broken ritz crackers. I just wondered if anybody had some other ideas.

My son is 11 months old and he's been eating the Graduates puffs for many months. He loves them and they melt in his mouth quickly so I'm never worried about him choking. The Graduates mini fruits are small too. And he loves Cheerios. Peas are another finger food he loves to feed himself. HTH
I know what you mean about those big wagon wheels. I gave one to Jack and he shoved the entire thing in his mouth and I frantically was fishing it out! I still give them to him but I break them up. ![]() |

Thanks for the ideas. I have never tried peas or cheerios so I will try them soon.

Baked white or sweet potato is another idea, with the peel pulled off after cooking. Then you can cut the potato into finger-sized portions. My kids liked blueberries at that age too, but it's not the season and they might be hard to find.

I had never thought of giving him potatoes for a snack but that is a really good idea. I also think the Cheerio book sounds really cute. I will have to tell Santa about it!

If you have introduced citrus, you could try canned mandarin oranges... My kids have always loved them. They are a little messy, but still manageable for small hands. I find the Publix brand to have larger and fewer broken pieces than Del Monte. Also, peaches and pears. I like to get the halves and cut them up myself.

When is it ok to introduce citrus? I have never heard. Those sound like good ideas, though.

Since citrus foods are more likely to cause allergies (also strawberries, egg products), it is best to wait until around 12 months. It's something you can start in a couple of months... but the peaches and pears can be eaten earlier.

My son is the same age, but he has 6 teeth. When we sit down to eat, I give him pieces of whatever he can eat of what we are having, and let him try to feed himself. Whether it is pieces of bread, or rice, or cut up beans, or other veggies, I have let him try everything he is able to eat. The more I give him, the more he seems to be learning to chew (ok...maybe gum) his food. He too loves the small puffs. I haven't tried the wagon wheels because the size scared me. I have cut up banana, ripe pears, and also given him those jars of apple and peach dices by Gerber.

Honestly, he can probably eat anything you eat at this point. Now granted, I'm on my second child so I know I am a lot more liberal this time around.
But Amelia is 10 and 1/2 months and won't even touch baby food anymore. She eats hamburgers, fish, chicken - pretty much whatever we are having for dinner, just cut in small bites for her to pick up. The only baby food she'll eat is oatmeal in the morning with a jar of fruit mixed in. It is SO scary to watch them shove something in their mouths - choking is one of my biggest fears. Unfortunately, the best way to let them get better at chewing, etc is by practice. My daugher (and my older one too) loves the new gerber veggie puffs - they are not the small puffs, these look like cheetos. Publix doesn't have them yet (but the northport manager said he'd order them for me), but Target carries them. Oh - FWIW - my peds have always told me that teeth have no role in their ability to chew food until they get their back molars. Until then, it's their jaws that mash the food. so don't let amount of teeth deter you. Amelia just got her first one two nights ago (yes, we're a bit late - took our first steps before cutting a tooth), but has been on table food for months. |

That Cheerios book is great. I just bought it for Jack and he loves it. He can read, play and eat all at once!
As for peas, yeah, I'd like to know more about that. I had not heard peas could be bad. So please pass along any info you have. Thanks! I have been pretty cautious about feeding Jack snacks b/c the choking thing terrifies me too. But I'm slowly venturing out. He loves sliced avocado. He loves the Gerber diced fruits too. I buy canned fruit (in its own juice) as well. His absolute favorite though is real bananas sliced up. My little monkey. LOL ![]() |

One thing that a lot of people don't think about feeding baby (b/c most people hate them) is sliced beets... straight from the can. They are easy to chew and very good for you. My toddler thinks they are yummy... between lunch and snack he ate a whole can today! My older kids won't touch them.
