Homegrown Alabama begins its weekly Farmers Market next Thursday, May 1, 3:00-6:30
The website says Perimeter Parking Lot on Univ Blvd, but I got an email this morning stating that it will be at Canterbury Chapel. (at corner of hackberry and 9th)
I went, too. I didn't go until near closing time b/c I had volunteered to help with the take-down of the tents. Next time, (if they need me--they had an abundance of helpers today) I will go early and come back to help.
I bought some of Miss Emily's Tomatoes (YUMMY), green onions, strawberries, turnip greens (I am a southerner) and a super-delicious pound cake that kept LO busy while I was helping out.
The honey people said that they will have honey in the comb later on... my son likes to zap it in the microwave for a few seconds and slice off thin slices of honey still in the honeycomb to put on bread.
THe poundcake I bought at the market was one of the best poundcakes I have ever eaten. (And my grandmother made some great ones!) It was very light for a poundcake(some might not consider a cake so fluffy a "pound" cake). But, like some of the most tasty cakes, it had quite a humble appearance... might be why McDMama's DH didn't notice it!!!
Oh, my tomatoes: After eating only one, I took them out to my mom's for her to pick out a couple and forgot to bring them back. ARGH
Oooooh, I'm so jealous! Everything sounds delicious! I sooo miss the Farmer's Market I used to walk to in Boston. I'd get great deals too. Are there great deals at this one? I'm so there next time!!
I found that out after the fact! Sorry, everyone, for the misinformation. But, wth? I hear they decided to follow the University's interim schedule and not have it this week. That makes no sense to me, and they didn't announce it. I get multiple emails every week reminding me and got nothing saying it was canceled. Are you sure it's happening next week?
