What do you guys think of this? I think my mouth dropped when I heard the news report. A bunch of 15 year-olds planning to get knocked up together so they can all raise their kids together and one even got knocked up by a homeless man? WHAT?!

Here's an update. There seems to be a bit of backtracking on the official word of whether there was actually a "pact" or not.

I heard about that.
It sounds like the school system is trying to salvage its reputation by disputing the term "pact." All of a sudden, the principal can't recall what he said. Interesting.
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but when a bunch of girls come out of a pregnancy test high-fiving each other and planning their baby showers and other students heard them say they wanted to raise their babies together....doesn't that sound like a pact?
Whatever term they want to use, it's just sad. Where are the parents of these girls?

Did anyone else read the article in Time (LawMommy posted the link)? From what I read in that article, the high school has an onsite daycare! What in the world??????

I saw that about the daycare and wondered if it's just for students or if the school is so big that they have on-site chilcare for faculty and staff...and students if they happen to have children. Anybody know what the deal is?

The idea of teenage girls having a pregnancy pact is just crazy! There was a lot of teen pregnancy in my high school. Numerous girls got pregnant and dropped out, but there were also a few that stayed in school and graduated. There were even a couple of girls that got married while still HS students, that were not expecting. I guess in rural towns girls don't think there is anything else they can do with their life. I know people were putting a lot of pressure on me to hurry up and get married and start having babies.

I'm not sure what I think about day care at school... One hand I think it's a terrible idea because it makes getting pregnant look more appealing to other teens in the school. But on the other hand, I think it could be a good thing if it keeps teen mothers in school so that they can graduate and make a better life for themselves and their child.

The whole situation really bothers me. These girls have no idea what a huge responsibility raising a child is.

It is this paragraph that really bothered me...

The high school has done perhaps too good a job of embracing young mothers. Sex-ed classes end freshman year at Gloucester, where teen parents are encouraged to take their children to a free on-site day-care center. Strollers mingle seamlessly in school hallways among cheerleaders and junior ROTC.

I am sure alot of girls see these teen mothers pushing thier cute little baby down the hall in thier adorable strollers and carring stylish diaper bags and see all the attention they are getting and want to be just like them. I'm not 100% sure how i feel about highschools providing daycare service, BUT i do see how Mom's strolling thier little ones down the school hallways could be causing problems, to onlooker it might appear easy and fun to be a teen mom, which is not true at all.

The latest is the principal is maintaining it was a pact while the mayor and students say it wasn't a pact.
I still don't understand the war over words here.
The fact is more than a dozen girls decided to get pregnant together, right? Let's address that instead of the word.
