Im 8 weeks pregnant and my clothes are getting pretty tight and even some of them I can't even get buttoned. My question is,is this normal to already need some maternity clothes this early? And when did you guys start needing maternity clothes?

Mommy2be,
I think that early gain like that is usually fluid retention and bloating but not true "showing" from the uterus growing yet. I was able to extend my jeans for a couple of months by leaving them unbuttoned and looping a ponytail holder around the button, then through the button hole and back around the button. Does that make sense? It basically gives you an extra inch or inch and a half of space there. Here is a link to an article about weight gain during pregnancy that might be helpful.

hi mommy2be,
I too gained early in my pregnancy. I think I started to show early because I have a small body frame. At 8 weeks no on could look at me and tell that I was pregnant but, I could not button my pants. At 12 weeks everyone could tell. I remember going into the store and the cashier asking my when I was due. It totally blew my mind that a stranger could tell I was pregnant. Anyways, I think it just depends on you body and how it handles pregnancy.

I showed early with both of my girls too. By 12 weeks I was in maternity clothes.

I do agree it could be fluid retention though.

But, my opinion is go ahead and get some nice comfy maternity clothes. For the outrageous price of them, the more use you get out of them the better. And why suffer with tight pants, kwim?

At 8 weeks I hadn't really gained weight yet, but my pants were begining to get snug around the waist, but most of them still fit. I had to start wearing maternity pants at 11 weeks. But, I was able to wear some of my looser fit tops till around 4 or 5 months.

I was the exact opposite. It took me so long to show. I was getting frustrated and wanting to show. LOL. I was wearing my maternity clothes anyway because I loved them.
I love maternity clothes and can't wait to wear them again!

Even though I was in maternity pants early, I wasn't really showing yet. Don't you hate that awkward stage where none of you clothes really fit anmore, but you don't look preg yet? I was in that stage for what seemed like forever. I couldn't wait till I really started to show, so everyone would be able to tell I was preg and not just getting fatter!
