Did you bank your baby's cord blood?

I didn't bank my oldest son's cord blood, but did with my youngest. My mom was diagnosed wih breast cancer in my 3rd trimester & we heard about advances made with cord blood and cancer treatments. However they weren't a match, but I figure you never know what might happen in the future.
Afterthought--Mom's nearly considered in remission after 5 yrs.

I didn't but I really wanted to. When I looked into cord blood banking and got all the info I knew it was something I wanted to do, however, after we were quoted on the pricing we just could not afford it. Frowner

I banked my 2nd child's cord blood. It's about $1000 dollars out of the shoot to have it processed and then it's not that bad after that - something like $100 bucks a year for storage. Cancer runs rampid in my hubby's side of the family, so we somehow made it happen. I am glad now, but at the time the payments were tough to swallow.

Yeah, price kept us away too.
If it wasn't so expensive I'm sure everyone would do it. Why not, right?

I haven't done much research on it, but if it were less expensive it's definitely something I would consider.

From what I read about it, it sounds like as of right now the uses are fairly limited (if you do private banking versus donation), really limited to certain diseases that your child might get (however very unlikely). What I wonder about, and I haven't seen any info on this, is whether years from now, as stem cell research improves and advances, that our children might benefit from having their cord blood banked and available - when they're adults?

I did bank my daughters cord blood. While the cost can be hard at first I think you can find a payment plan you could live with. The well being of my daughter should be worth at least as much as my cell phone bill, right? I agree with LawMommy in that the real advantage to storing cord blood now is what the future holds years from now. I went to cordblood.com and was very happy. There is a referal coupon code (MAPLE) that will help cut some of the cost.
