Check out what researchers are saying about the disposition of babies born to smokers...

My mother smoked. For the most part she quit while she was pregnant with my brother and I. But, she recently told me that once a week she smoked one cigarrette and had one glass of wine. She said she looked forward to that all week. I wonder if that small amount of smoking could have an affect on a fetus? I don't smoke, so I'm glad I didn't have to worry about quiting when I got pregnant!

My mom smoked during her pregnancy with me. And I think I turned out OK. Not that I think it's OK, mind you. But I've got 10 fingers and 10 toes. And I am reasonably intelligent. LOL.
Seriously, though. I've always wondered if my allergies and the fact that I got sick easily as a child stemmed from it. But I'm a pretty happy person so it didn't give me a grumpy personality like these researchers say. You know what's crazy? My mom tells me stories about how her doctor would sit there smoking in her face at prenatal check ups and how after she gave birth the nurses would offer her an ashtray so she could light up in her hospital bed. WTH?! It was a crazy world in the 60s and 70s when my mom had kids. LOL |

I got sick very easily as a child, too. I constantly had severe ear infections, Bronchitis, colds, allergies, etc... I think it was from being constantly exposed to my parents' 2nd hand smoke. Because I'm perfectly healthy now that I'm not exposed to it anymore. The last time I went to the doctor because I was sick was 10 years ago and that was for a stomach issue. (of course I still go to the dentist, OBGYN, etc...)

My mother didn't ever smoke, but my father smoked in the house when I was little, and presumably while my mother was pregnant. I had terrible recurring ear infections and allergies when I was very young, and I had tubes put in my ears twice before I was 4 or 5 years old. My mother attributes all of those problems to the second-hand smoke.

Ok, my dirty little secret time. I smoke. I smoked before I was preggo. And it took several weeks to completly put them down after I found out I was preggo. I don't however, smoke anywhere around my LO. I go outside at home.
But crazy enough, my mom smoked when she was pregnant with me and my sister, and my DH mom did the same. We seem to have turned out ok |

Ok, I'm a dodo. I just read that story after I posted! I have to say, my LO has always been a pretty happy guy. I would like to think I passed on some of that to him. Cause I am a happy gal almost all of the time. And all the nice things they said about women who were able to quit while preggo makes me feel good. Finally, a study that makes me feel good about myself, and not like I should have known better than to give him those toys covered in lead paint
