Today is Thunderstorm Awareness Day in Alabama. The weather service wants families to think about how to prepare for a severe thunderstorm. And check out the link below for a story and tips.

But I thought it would be fun to share what we love about a good thunderstorm.

I love being inside with my family while it storms outside. It feels cozy. Especially at night. It's fun to turn off the lights and light candles. I love listening to the thunder.

I know I said I love a good thunderstorm, but HOLY MOLY. Did that storm last night keep anyone else up? I was up for like 90 minutes. It was sooo loud and crazy!

Scared me to death, but my husband and son slept right through it! And this morning, when I asked my husband what he thought of that horrendous storm, he goes, "It rained last night?"
Amazing!

I wasn't really scared, but I did have to get up because the rain was blowing so hard against the front of the house, it sounded like it was coming in the windows. I expected to see puddles on the floor. Fortunately, everything was ok.

It was really loud, the rain especially. It woke me up, and then the weather radio went off a couple of times, so I was up about an hour or a little more.

The only thing I love about Thunderstorms is when they are NOT in Tuscaloosa. The ones you get in the afternoon on the coast... Now, those can be nice (unless it's your only day on the coast LOL).

Severe weather expected tonight. You might want to get out your weather radio!

Where can I get a weather radio? I've been hearing about those and I definitely want one.

I'd try radio shack.

The only thing I don't like about them is that they go off for EVERY warning. There are warnings/watches updated quite often on a stormy night.

Wow. Some more crazy storms last night. I was woken up again and couldn't get back to sleep. I kept thinking, what if a tornado ripped through here right now? How would we know? Where would we go? What would we do? This northern girl needs to chill on the tornado paranoia. LOL.
I have to get one of those weather radios.
My DH asked if we just leave it on all night and "go to sleep to the sweet sounds of weather talk." LOL.
Is that what you do? Just leave it on all night? Is it noisy?

I went to Publix on University Blvd. last night. They had a whole bunch of weather radios. I already had one, but I bought this one ($29)b/c it seemed better than my old one which I no longer use b/c it was annoying going off all the time.

It lets you set the county in which you want to hear alerts on. It didn't go off at all and I slept like a baby. I didn't even hear a storm--if it even got bad here. I don't know.

Kristi, I moved south when I was about 10, and I still haven't chilled.
I'm always freaking out during a storm - mostly because I don't know WHEN I should get my kid out of bed and get him into our so-called "safe place" (which I also doubt, because it's just a closet and doesn't seem all that safe to me).
I mean, do I really need to wake him up and get into a panic & traumatize him every time a siren goes off? Because then I'd be waking him up in the middle of the night at least once a month, the way things are down here. But I sure don't want to take too much of a risk, because I'm not sure I'll know a tornado when I hear one.
I'd get a weather radio, but I really think that would stress me out even more. I mean, it can't tell me if one's headed straight for my house anymore than a siren or James (?is that his name?) Spann can.
So any time there's a storm, I just sit up all night - or until it's all cleared out -worrying myself to death.
And my husband works nights (you know the newspaper biz), and that makes things worse because I have to make the whole decision by myself.
All I can say is, I'm glad it's over (for the next couple of days, at least!). And I hope everyone's okay!
