A funny thing about being a mom is that you worry while you are pregnant about just giving birth to a healthy baby. Many "wanna be" moms don't realize that the worry NEVER ENDS. You begin development worries FOREVER!! I am no expert either, but your daughter sounds normal. Autism is hard to diagnose for sure before school age unless they are severe. There are serious developmental delays that would be more obvious. I have worked with several classifications of autistic kids and some of the very mild cases function normally in school, its just a focus thing. Relax and just remember that like snowflakes, no two kids are exactly alike.

KatieEm, try not to worry too much about autism yet. Since my Will was 3 people have tried labeling him as possible autistic for issues like being bright but throwing easy tantrums and insisting things being a certain way. His preschool director even told me she thought he was b/c he didn't conform to the way she believed 3yo's should be! Even fussing b/c he couldn't put his shoes on himself--at 3! He has been tested & is ok. He has speech delays & a few behavior issues but nothing that I don't see as personality traits. I have a child development background & have worked with autistic kids before. Socially Will is a little behind, but every year is a major improvement. Please don't let people scare you in the diagnosis of the day. Every child develops at their own pace and I'm sure she is consistent & is doing well.

KatieEm, it sounds like other people are more worried than you are about your daughter, and you know her best. That said, I have read that early identification of problems is best, and there is a big push by the government and advocacy groups to get children identified well before school age so that interventions can begin early. Here is a link to the website for the gov't campaign, which seems to have some good no-nonsense information, including guidelines and checkilists, etc. If you have real concerns, maybe you should talk to you daughter's doctor about it, and he or she can refer you to testing if y'all decide to do that. And, like others who've posted here, I am no expert and have basically no experience with autism at all, but what you describe doesn't sound like any of the classic signs that I have read about. The loud noise thing sounds normal to me.

So my air conditioning went out late yesterday and we had to sleep with fans on. This morning my house is so warm. I am keeping my blinds shut. I need to call someone this morning. I hope I can get someone here TODAY or else we may be driven out of the house! Can anyone recommend who to call?

Oooh, Kristi, I feel your pain (a la Bill Clinton voice). Miller Service installed our new HVAC last summer. They have been pretty good. Good luck!

Jones Heating Cooling & Plumbing is who we used last summer and we were happy with them (after using someone else that came out 2 or three different times and couldn't fix it). Good luck! It's too hot for a broken A/C in the hottest city in Alabama!

One more . . . Why when I have to get up very early for a very important event, do we have thunder storms creating the posibility of power outages and no alarm clock to go off?

Oh man, grndhogmom, you're having a rough week. I hope it improves for you. So our A/C is fixed. Big sigh of relief. They charged me way too much money for what was a minor issue with it. Don't you hate that? Ugh. But we probably never would have figured it out on our own. Ah well. My DH tells me to let it go, that it doesn't do any good to fume about it. But, yes, I'm still fuming. I hate getting robbed blind. On a happier note, I am very excited because we now have a babysitter tomorrow night and can go to the movies! Yay! And dare I say a drink afterward? Gasp. A rare rare thing. LOL. There are toys all over my living room and I have no desire to pick them up. But I guess I should before I break my neck.

Grndhogmom- I am glad to hear that she is home and resting and that it is all over with. I have been thinking about her. Get some much needed rest this weekend and just take it easy. Kristi- Yeah to getting your A/C fixed. And yes I hate being over charged too. A few months ago our refrigerator went out, the repair guy was there for 15 minutes and replaced on part. We were charged $30 for the part and $250 for the labor. I was furious, but I needed my fridge fixed so there wasn't much i could do. How Exciting about a date night with DH. What movie are you going to see? I'm over at my parents house today. I've been cutting out 6 outfits while she is napping and WOW and I worn out. I'm trying to get a started on her some fall outfits and I have 2 orders that I am working on that ppl want for football season. Luckily my mom is taking care of Livi so I can get what i need done and take a break when I need one. I hope everyone has a good weekend. We have a birthday party Saturday and then Sunday we are spending the day catching up one projects around the house.

Livismom-wow, 6 outfits. You must sew a lot. You must teach me how to. - I am working one outfit and that is for Halloween for Kaitlyn. She wants to be a princess. So I found a pattern for Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, and Rapunzel. I am not sure which one I want to do. I also have to find the time.
