Here is a story about hot playground equipment. It says children can get second-degree burns.

I saw that piece on the news last night. I was horrified. How awful. I think any further playground visits will be when its cooler and shaded either early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

That is scary! Not to mention at some of the playgrounds you have to watch out for things like needles and other crazy things that should NOT be at playgrounds. We were at a local park and saw a boy who looked to be about 10 shooting a BB gun at peoples cars, signs, and up in the air. I know that is off the topic but its so scary what all you have to be careful of these days. Who thinks of the park as such a dangerous place? I know I don't! Besides all the added dangers I wouldn't have ever thought of the hot play equipment causing second-degree burns either.

I've saw a couple articles about this and it is very scary. The UCP park has that black rubber flooring and I can say from experience that it really heats up. I was there one day at 10:30 and my feet were starting to burn through my flip flops. Unfortunately in Alabama we definetely have to be careful of things like this.

Yep, I was going to say the same thing about the ground at UCP. Also, the time I took Will there I felt the swing before I put him in it and it was very hot, but I had a receiving blanket in my diaper bag, so I put it over the swing before setting him in it.

And it's not just the swings you have to worry about. At the Winn Dixie on 69 South they just got new shopping carts and they have some that look like a car and have steering wheels in them. The cart getter was just bringing some inside as I was coming in the store. I thought they were cute and started to get one to put Will in. Then I noticed that it was HOT from sitting outside in the sun and just got one of the regular carts instead.
