Well, I'm nervous. I've put it off until now so I could read everything and follow all the news about it. And tomorrow Jack is finally getting his MMR shot. I'm still nervous. Anyone else get the MMR shot and the world didn't end?
Kristi. I feel you - big time. Amelia got hers today - about 2 hours ago actually. I hate this shot so much. Amelia did great though. Cried of course, but we handed her a bag of fruit snacks immediately after and she calmed right down. Food is the great motivator for my baby :-)
Jack will be ok. Anabelle got hers at 18 months and was fine - she was one of the lucky ones with NO reaction at all.
still too early to tell if Amelia will have a reaction or not. We actually got two today - the MMR in the leg, and the HIB in the arm. I just made sure to give her tylenol right beforehand, and to massage her thigh for about a minute right after the shot. That is supposed to help.
If he IS going to get a reaction, it will be 10 days after the shot. That's the magic number with MMR - so be on the lookout for a rash or fever at 10 days post shot.
Hugs - it's a hard one to go through, isn't it?

Kristi- Olivia got her in May. I put it off until her 15 month appointment and was planning on putting it off until her 18 month appointment but after talking with her pediatrician (Dr. Walker at Tuscaloosa Pediatrics) I FINALLY felt a peace about it and went ahead. We normally see Dr. Brown but for some reason we were seeing Dr. Walker that day. I have discussed my fears of the links to autism to the MMR vaccine with with a couple different doctors and most of the time I got the "I can't believe you are questioning me, she needs the MMR and that is that" remark. Dr. Walker acknowledged my fear and told me that it was a valid concern but that as a parent and as a doctor who worked through a measles outbreak in Chicago that she was more afraid of the diseases than she was on the risk of the MMR vaccine. That conversation helped me so much. And Olivia did great, she didn't have any reactions. Good Luck
FWIW, Amelia had no soreness, pain, or anything yesterday after the shot. I did give her tylenol, but she played like normal, ate like normal, slept like normal, etc.

Thanks guys for thinking of us! Jack did great. And our doctor is great. He took the time to talk with me about the whole topic again. I really like going there and feel Jack is in good hands. Wanna hear something funny? He freaked out about getting measured and weighed more than he did about getting his shot! Silly silly babies. And moozle, same thing here so far. Jack is running around playing with his toys as I type. He is totally acting fine. But I think I'll keep us in today and lay low just in case he starts feeling icky at all. I'm thinking he might take a nice long nap too.
