I had a C-Section with my son. I expected to have the worst time afterward never having had any surgery and hearing lots of terrible stories of women not being able to walk for weeks, and having shooting pains all through their abdomen, and... well you get my point. But my recovery and healing were rather uneventful and quick. I didn't even need to finish my pain meds. I had a friend who had a recent c-section, and she said she had a very hard time recovering. That got me to wondering, am I the only one that had a great experience with a c-section?

HI April! I have had two c-sections. The first was 16 years ago and was an awful experience due to being put to sleep. However, my c that was in August of 2007 went wonderfully!!! I was up walking within a couple of hours and was up that night taking care of my newborn little girl. I had a wonderful experience and wouldn't have changed it for the world! I think it totally depends on the person and the situation. I am soooo glad I wasn't put under for this one. I believe that being awake during the surgery lead to a quicker recovery time for me. I was back to doing everything within days of the surgery, cleaning house, taking care of the baby, cooking, driving (within a week) and everything.

I didn't have a C. But my best friend did. And she had a great recovery and it really didn't pose a problem for her at all. She was up and around and she healed quickly and wasn't in much pain. She made it seem easy!

My sister has had 3 c-sections and bounced back wonderfully from all 3. Also, she just recently had a hystorectomy and bounced back from that too. She's part tigger!

I've had two Cs, too, and I recovered from both of them quickly and easily.
I think a 'natural' birth sounds muchmuchmuch more painful, and - though I know it's supposed to be a beautiful bonding experience - I actually feel kind of lucky that I've never had to go through it.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back, been out of town and off work. It was wonderful! I guess that the stories you hear about C's are the same as regular births, people only like to tell about the bad ones. I have to admit I was terrified when I went into surgery, but the day I was discharged, I went grocery shopping (my son was in the NICU). I'm glad I am not the only one. I think we should tell our happy stories more.

April-mommy to Ronald-1 year old Wednesday!

My first was a regular birth. I recovered quickly. My labor was only 12 hrs. With my 2nd I had a c-section(i hated it). I was in labor for 53 hrs. She was born at 32 weeks. I was in DCH for 4 days after because I lost so much blood. I hurt REALLY BAD. I could not walk very good until about 2 weeks later. ( plus I think I over did it). I believe it depends on the person how thier body re-acts to either a reg. birth or a c-section.

I neglected to mentioned that I had a SCHEDULED c-section. There's a big difference! 53 hours of labor (or even "just" 12!)and then an emergency c-section sounds like a nightmare. You must be pretty tough, BrunetteMommy!

RonaldsMom- Is your son still big for his age? I'm just wondering, because my youngest is now average-sized, and my eldest is actually kinda short & thin for his age (sure do hope he never reads this!). You'd never know either of them were big babies!

Yes, he is still big. 1 year old; 26 pounds and 32 inches tall (almost 3 feet tall!!!). He can open my back door (has a lever handle) so we have to keep it locked. He was 11 pounds 4 ounces at birth to be exact.

It was so hard the last trimester. I only gained 41 pounds overall, but he was most of that. When laying in bed, if I wanted to roll over, I would have to use both arms(one around each side) to move my belly, and my legs to push up and flop over my body. When I get some time, I will post pictures of how huge I got. You know how people will say to you while your preagnant, "you look like your ready to pop any minute", when most of the time they are only 6 or 7 months along? Well, they were right with me. My son was 7 pounds at six months prego. I knew he was heavy, but at 36 weeks, when they did the ultrasound and told me he was almost 9 1/2 pounds already, I was shocked to say the least.

I always knew he would be big. But not that big LOL!. My DH is 6'3", my father is 6'6", and my grandpa was 6'11" tall. So it kind of runs in the family LOL!

I have never heard of "hijacking a thread", what is that?

How old are your children DistractedMom? I seem to recall somewhere you saying, but my brain just can't remeber?

April

my oldest is 18, my youngest is three. And I THINK hijacking is when you change the subject on a thread ... like I just did here!

And my husband is 6'3" (and his brothers and father are all taller than him!), but all the men on my side of the family are on the short side (and my eldest's father is pretty short, too), so I can't wait to see how my tot turns out!
