Got a question for you ladies. When is it time to remove the front of the crib?
His crib allows for the front to be removed, and the other 3 sides stay in place. I am wanting to take it down because my son has started to climb on the coffee table, and can now pull and push himself onto my couch, and I don't want him to try and climb out of the crib and fall. Because if he tried to, I am sure he could get his leg over the top of the crib. He is learning how to get down off of the couch by himself, and I have one of those gates you can put along the edge of a bed to keep babies from falling out.
What do you guys think?

How old is he? I took mine off last month (20-21 months old). I still use an attachable thingy (momnesia) that folds up/down to keep him from rolling off. Mine has a strap that attaches to the opposite side of the bed (under mattress) to keep it from being pushed out.
Sorry I should have said...one my momnesia moments...LOL He is 14 months old. I think it has a strap too, but I haven't examined it yet, because I haven't need it.

I did it just over a year with my first daughter. She did the same thing with climbing and I was scared she would snap her leg or neck trying to climb out. I took the front rail down and put one of those guards up and it left a 14" gap at the bottom of the bed, so I put a small step stool there to help her climb in and out at the gap spot and she did just great. The adjustment is having them show up in your face at 3am wanting something!!! Watch for that - - no hanky panky anymore (hee hee).
I have friends that have moved them that early to the convertible portion of the crib with no problems.
I'm personally a big proponent, though, of keeping them in a crib as long as possible. My oldest was in it until she was 2 and 1/2, and only moved then to make room for baby.
She was a big climber too - but never in her crib. She knew that was for sleeping.
They also have crib nets if you have a climber.
So far Amelia is still fine in the crib too (14 months).
What have you decided? I'm sure he'll do great either way!

My son was 2 1/2 when I moved him also. He has done super and knock on wood, he hasn't climbed out of his bed in the middle of night or gotten down after his naptime. He waits for me to come and get him.I keep wondering how long that will last.
Oh....and we also skipped the toddler bed stage and converted his crib to the big bed so we wouldn't have to go through 2 transitions (from crib to toddler bed and then from toddler bed to big bed).
He hasn't yet tried to climb out of his crib, so I will probably wait until he starts trying to get out before I take off the front. He is trying to climb up on just about everything else though. I just got a letter though that there is a safety recall on the brackets on his crib. Apparently they do not let the bed go down low enough, so that may have something to do with why I was so concerned. Every time I looked at the crib I thought it didn't low enough, but didn't think to measure. So I will see when the new brackets come whether he could even make it out of the bed. Thank you for the advice.
