I came up with this idea the other day and I thought I would share it here.

I have always worried about my LO pulling the iron down on him. Even if it is not hot, it is still a dangerously heavy object. I don't have anywhere to mount one of those iron keepers--which are great. I keep my iron plugged in (turned off) b/c the plug is WAY out of reach so I can't be unplugging and plugging it in every time I need it. That created a problem. The iron is up on a high shelf, but the cord is dangling down--it might as well have "Pull Me" written on it. So, I went through the house scavenging for a remedy. I found a bicycle lock and used it to wrap around the handle and the shelf. Now, if the cord gets pulled on, the iron is secured to the shelf.

I though it might be a hassle, but after using it a few times, I found that it only takes a few seconds to put it away. Even when I do decide to unplug the iron, I am already in the habit of "locking it up" because I have open shelves.

I just wanted to post this because the bicycle lock is very convenient to use and some of you might have a situation where one might come in handy for you. The lock I use has a key but you can lock and unlock it w/o taking it out and losing it.

Sounds like you came up with a great solution!
I worry about the iron too. It's so heavy and pointy and the cord is so long. We keep ours in the bedroom and our bedroom is always closed off to him. But I'm always unplugging and pulling the cord up and out of the way *just in case*

I buy permanent press - hee hee! We lock ours up in our master closet - ironing board and all standing up and locked away.
