Hi everyone,
I feel like I'm at a lull in what to feed by baby. He is 7 months and 1 week. He is still BF, plus I feed him some homemade purees (avocado, banana, etc), oatmeal cereal, and jarred veggies (though I haven't found a good selection of organic veggies in the local grocery stores). I'm ready to move beyond the pureed world....I am wondering when I can start yogurt, puffs, biter biscuits, etc. The sites I've found vary in their guidelines...some say 6 months for yogurt unless there is a milk allergy in the family. Others say wait until 9-10 months. I'd love to hear how some of you introduced new textures and types of foods. Thanks!! Angie |

Jack's mommy |
Hi Angie. I remember feeling exactly as you do just a few months ago. Here's how I handled it.
I started working on the pincer grasp with Jack using puffs. Once he got it down, I felt he was capable of eating them. And that was his snack. As for yogurt, I didn't introduce that until 12 months when he started eating dairy. And FYI: I found the biter biscuits to be way out of Jack's league when he was 7 months old. They are large and hard to bite. I bought them but wound up keeping them in the cupboard until he was about 10 or 11 months. And Cheerios are always great. I gave him those after he got used to the puffs. HTH! ![]() |

Two more thoughts... cut up ripe banana pieces (in addition to pureed) are a great solid to start with because they are so soft and sweet. A A reminder that a friend shared with me when I first got pregnant-- bananas stain! (Adults without babies would have never thought that to be the case because until the babes come along, who gets banana on their clothes?!) Anyway, thats what spray and wash is for!
Also-- rice cakes are great too, When Ben was 6-8 months old he went through a package of rice cakes every week. They dissolve like the puffs and the LO can hold on to the cake pretty easily. Good luck! Mom to Ben, age 2 |

Thanks for the info! I went to Publix to look for Puffs today...no luck. I'll check Super Target this weekend.
I wouldn't have thought rice cakes would dissolve that easily--good tip. Have a good night, Angie |

From early on, my LO loved cooked vegetables. I have always tried to prepare them in a variety of ways to change things up a bit for him. His favorite is grilled--or cooked on a griddle until they have a nice carmelized brown color. (I might cook them a little longer than I normally would.) Squash and zucchini work very well...as do potatoes. Whatever. Later, we added asparagus (it sometimes can be a little tough). I want to try some brussel sprouts. But they might work better roasted in the oven, tossed with olive oil--like brocolli. Cooked this way, they get very tender but not mushy...they are loaded with flavor and none of the vitamins are poured down the drain. You can cut them up into bite sized pieces that he can learn to pick up on his own. The skins might need to be removed for the VERY young. My LO thinks they are a treat!
