This makes me sad. Kids are passing up free lunch and going hungry because they are worried about how it will look to their friends.

That is sad, and I feel their pain ... my family was pretty poor when I was growing up (my dad supported us AND paid for my mother to go to nursing school - on a minimum wage job! Still don't know how they did it ...), and I got the "reduced price" lunch for years. And it was VERY embarressing.
