When I was young, I was busy all the time... playing outside. In the summer, my brothers played baseball, but that was it. We were outside playing ball, "army"--neighborhood favorite, exploring... whatever. There were no video games (hey, I remember being wowed when pong came out) and we weren't at this or that practice 3 or 4 days a week. (Although, it would be nice if I could play the piano or dance!) We came home from school, went outside until dinner was ready and then back outside until dark. When we were older, we would play games like Monopoly and Yahtzee. It was great--for us and our mom. Wouldn't it be great if we could send our kids out to play and not worry about them for a couple of hours--maybe cook dinner or wash the dishes promptly after dinner? But, I worry too much about their safety these days to let them roam. I don't think mine are too busy--just a couple of activities each, but it adds up to a lot of little trips in the car. Sometimes, I dread the after school hours.
