The library has lined up an award-winning illustrator to kick off its summer library program. He'll be there June 2 & 3.

Here's the info:

On Monday, June 2, the 2003 Caldecott Medal Winner, children’s author and illustrator Eric Rohmann will kick off the Tuscaloosa Public Library’s 2008 Summer Library Program “Catch the Reading Bug” at all three locations.

The Caldecott Medal is presented annually by the American Library Association to the author/illustrator with the “most distinguished American picture book” for children’s literature. Eric won for his illustrations of his book, My Friend Rabbit. His first book, Time Flies, was a runner-up for the award and received a Caldecott Honor award in 1995.

He will present several programs about writing and illustrating children’s books:

Monday, June 2: Main Library at 3 p.m., Weaver-Bolden Library at 10 a.m. and Brown Library at 1 p.m.

Tuesday, June 3: Main Library at 6 p.m., Weaver-Bolden Library at 10 a.m. and Brown Library at 3 p.m.

Eric Rohmann’s visit to Tuscaloosa is funded in part by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

The Tuscaloosa Public Library Main Branch is located at 1801 Jack Warner Parkway.

The Weaver-Bolden Library is located at 2937 18th Street.

The Brown Library is located in the Bobby Miller Center at 300 Bobby Miller Parkway.

For additional program information, contact the Tuscaloosa Public Library Main Branch at 205-345-5820 ext. 231.
