OK, I know I already vented about the spiders around here (I've killed 3 this morning already). And those freak me out on a daily basis. And I called an extermination company and they told me there's nothing they can do. Grrrrr.
But now I have a battle with FLIES.
Whenever we open our front or back door I swear there are like 10 flies waiting to come in. And they do. And once they're in here they are BEYOND ANNOYING. They buzz around our heads and try to get into our food and land on our faces. As I type this there is a fly sitting on my arm. Ughhhhhh.
We had a cookout this weekend with lots of family here and kids in and out and now I have all these flies in here!
HELP!!! Any suggestions? I've managed to kill a few with a newspaper but they're usually way too quick for me.
Oh and DH bought this strip thing yesterday that, upon closer reading, you shouldn't use in populated rooms of the house and shouldn't be around children. Um, guess that's not a good solution.
Aaaack! There's two flies on me right now!!!! I'm going to lose my mind.

Kristi, I feel your frustration with the flies!!!!!!! We have them in our house too and yesterday DH cooked out and we were in the house laughing at him, because he had tongs in one hand and a fly swater(sp?) in the other. My LO's had some friends over yesterday and I can't tell you how many times I told them to stop coming in and out, because every time the door open a whole colony of flies would come in! I too would also appreciate any suggestions on getting rid of these pesty flies!

I feel your pain with the flies. But I will take flies over gnats anyday. I have gnats. I despise gnats. The sole function of a gnat is to irriate and annoy a person until they break. Ok back to the fly lol. Once they're inside there's nothing left to do other than chase them down with a fly swatter. Oh the joy it gives to finally blast that sucker with the fly flap once you catch him. The secret is to try to keep them from coming in, that is the trick. There are old folks who will tell you to put some water in a ziploc bag and hang it over your door. Theory is that flies will think it's a wasp nest and not go near it. I tried it and it did seem to help. But then again I also went to Home Depot and got the fly trap bag, a yellow bag you fill with water that has an attractant in the bag that honestly smells like rotting dead body with some rotten fish thrown in for good measure so be sure to hang it awaaaaay from where you'll be but it works. I had that sucker filled up with flies in no time. Good luck with your fly issues.

Thanks for the suggestions Pookiepie. I will definetly try both of these. What really irritates me is when we sit down at the table to eat and nobody can eat, because we are all swatting the flies away! I can't ever remember having this big of a problem with flies.

The ziplock bag/water thing seems to be the thing that my "all knowing old school" father says works like a charm.

Why do gnats swarm in the same spot every day? I hate those things. There's a spot in my driveway and another in the back yard that is always swarming with gnats.

I don't have a problem with them inside, though. Thank goodness!

Thanks for the suggestions!
I've also found another way to kill them. Wait until they...ahem...are getting busy. I swear, I killed two fly couples today that way. One couple was getting romantic on my fireplace. The other was on my ottoman. I guess they didn't know what else to do after being trapped in my house for 3 days.
LOL
