Jack's mommy |
I can certainly relate to this article!
If you are a mom that works from home, like me, these tips may be useful. http://www.cnn.com/2007/LIVING/12/19/make.it.work/index.html I found that working while my son naps works for me (I'm doing it right now!). I personally can't imagine hiring a sitter or bringing Jack to childcare when I am at home. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of working from home? If my son is particularly demanding one day, I just resort to working that night or over the weekend when my husband can be with him. The beauty of being home is the flexibility. However, it's true. The "office door" is never closed! ![]() |

Thanks for this article. These are good tips, and I do practice some of them. I did hire a babysitter to come into my house 2 times a week for 2 hours at a time. I just was not making all my deadlines, and I wasn't getting the amount of writing done that I needed to do....my grant specifies that I work 30 hours a week...sometimes, I feel lucky to get a good solid 3!!! Anyway, when the babysitter is here, I can hear what's going on, I know Ben is in good hands, and I feel more productive and more focused on him when I'm with him. His naps are just not long enough for me to get accomplished what I need to do. I do work some in the evenings, but my husband works from 6 am to 6 pm every day, so I really like to spend my evenings with him. Obviously, I am just finding it very difficult to work from home. All I want to do is be a mom right now...much to my advisor's chagrin!! Any other tips you have found helpful????
Thanks, Angie |

I've had it both ways and I am on the fence about being a working mom. I was a sales rep that worked from home most days and it was tough. You would have your darling screaming in the background just when that crisis went down that needed some major attention and it was hard to do - but you could blow off to the park on those gorgeous days on a whim. Then I have done the desk job where you don't have the luxary of jumping off to the doctor the moment you discover something is wrong and you have NO TIME to get chores done - but when you are home you are done working. The best job ever would seem to be a stay-home non-working mom, but that too lends to some sense of self woes. I don't know the right answer but being a mom is the toughest full time job I've ever have FOR SURE, but worth every moment!

Angie, it sounds like that was a good idea for you to have someone come in a few times a week for a few hours. You have A LOT on your plate! I may have a totally different answer to this in a few months or next year. LOL. But right now I'm managing to get everything done. Knock on wood.
Now that Jack has started walking all around, I do wonder if I will be as productive...hmmmmmm ![]() |

My youngest is three, and sometimes I have to work with him climbing in my lap or hanging from my neck, but my husband and I have managed so far.
We pass him back and forth & I work during his naps a lot, too, so we've never had to hire a sitter. Which is fortunate, because there'd be nothing left of my paycheck if we did - and what's the point of that?! |
