Okay - maybe this is a dumb question, but I really wonder about it. How do ya'll get laundry done? I have a family of 4 and it seems to ALWAYS be over my head. Maybe it's because I leave my house each day at 6:45 and don't return home until 4:00pm, and then there are other immediate things that need to be done before bedtime, so I get it all on the weekends and it sucks a day away from me. Not so bad during the winter months, but when the weather is nice I wind up doing loads till 2am on a Sat night. And don't get me started on the sheets. Oprah and her doctor gurus said that once a week is necessary. Are you kidding me, I can barely get the underwear done so I stretch mine to every other weekend.
Curious - how do you working mom's do the laundry deal - I am looking for any great ideas to cut the time!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I have the same trouble. I feel like my kids change clothes 4 times a day! I don't even work full-time and the laundry overwhelms me. My most recent solution is that I wash and my husband folds and puts it away. And we have the kids (7 and 3) put their own clothes away once they're folded. Of course, sometimes my husband isn't quick enough to keep up with the pile-up, and I get impatient and end up folding a bit myself, but it definitely makes a huge difference to spread the responsibility around.

I am a SAHM,but with 5 people it doesn't matter that I am at home. I try to put a load in the wash when we go to bed, then first thing in the morning I throw it in the dryer and fold and put it up later in the day. I don't sort laundry and I use a iron if I have to so laundry can stay in the dryer a long time sometimes. Sheets are washed on Sunday if I get to it.

Beats me! I stay home and can't get half the stuff done that some working moms do. It's amazing!
And I say you shouldn't worry too much about it. As long as you get them washed in a reasonable amount of time, who cares! Just fold a basket a day, or something like that. Whatever you can manage. I mean, playing with your kids & enjoying life is more important than laundry, I think. So stop worrying! I bet you're doing better than most. |

Flylady.net has helped me alot!!!! I already had some routines in place, but she helped me add a few other that were beneficial to me. Check her out. They also have a house fairy to have your kids help keep their rooms clean. HouseFairy.org, I believe. I will use her as soon as my LO is old enough.
I leave the house at 7:15, and I don't return until 5:45, so I have to keep to my routine, or my house will be in shambles. I try to do my son's laundry and towels on one weeknight (in between dinner and bed sometime, and sometimes it takes two days to complete LOL!), then our laundry and sheets on one weekend day. That way I don't spend an entire day on it. I try and do alot of cleaning during the week too. It doesn't always happen, but I try my best to keep to it so I can enjoy my weekend with my family. Eureka!!!!!!!! – I have found the solution for laundry woes – here is the plan:
For the kids and adults (no matter the age) – no underwear, everyone goes commando. On M,W and F you wear the same pair of jeans and on T and Th and Sat you wear a different pair. Sunday you wear a new pair of pants (it’s church day). On M, and W you wear the same shirt, just turn it inside out for day # 2 and then on Tu and Thu do the same thing. Also Fri and Sat you wear the same shirt, turn it inside out for day # 2 and if someone comments that you wore the same thing yesterday you simply say they are play cloths (make sure you turn them inside out) Sunday, you get a new shirt (it’s church day). For sheets – just spray them down with febreeze after every sleep and give them a tumble in the dryer at high temps to kill germs mid week and you can stretch them to 3 weeks. For towels – cut them in ½ and alternate the 2 halves through the week, then finally wash them together and it will seem like only 1 load. This should cut laundry well in half for everyone! I really hope everyone knows I am kidding. Happy February! |

I try to get the laundry done the same day that it was put in the basket. I put a load of "top" clothes in before I leave for work at 6:30am and then when I get home I put those into the dryer and put in the "undies" and towels. When the washer is done, I hang the clothes that are in the dryer and put the towels in, usually by the time supper is done and the kids are in bed I have most of the laundry done. However, it is time to start again! This does keep it where I can stay on top of it though. Saturday mornings I put in the sheets and blankets and have them done by lunch time and back on the beds. I do this while I am vacumming, dusting and moping! HOWEVER, baseball season is here - so this may all go out the window when we have games!!! GO WBHS TIGERS!!
