I've wanted to try the ebay thing and have a ton of junk in boxes waiting to be sold but I can never seem to find the time to do it lol. It is a good idea though with the economy so bad, kinda helps the seller and the buyer.
I do really well selling DD's clothes on a site called www.gymbofriends.com I love Gymboree so about 90% of Olivia's clothing comes from there. Thanks to that site I know about all the coupons, sales and promotions, so I am able to buy her clothes at a great price and then resale them for about 10% less than what I paid for them. I've also gotten some really great deals on used clothing. I'm totally addicted.
I buy and sell all the time as well! And I have found that you can often do a lot better on craigslist than you can on ebay, depending ... I have certainly used craigslist to sell some big-ticket items that you can't ship, and been very (very!) pleased with the results. I wish craigslist were better and more used here in tuscaloosa (tuscaloosa.craigslist.org) but bham.craigslist.org isn't half bad, and if you're really looking for something, the Atlanta craigslist is phenomenal!
Last summer, we sold two big-screen projection tvs for $1100 (total -- and one wasn't even HD-capable!), and last week we sold two very nice bookcases that we paid $400 for last year, for $300! But then a few months ago, I was able to get a gently-used Dyson Animal vacuum, which sells for $500, for $150! The people were moving to the UK and so none of their electronics would work, so they sold it all ...
We also bought the armoire for my daughter's room from a craigslister. And two weeks ago we almost bought a Pottery Barn Kids armoire, which retails for $1400, for only $300! (We didn't get it b/c we realized it didn't fit! DRATS!!!)
There are definitely deals to be had both buying AND selling!
