Hi, I'm Michele and I have a 16 yr old boy and a 4yr old little girl. We just moved to Northport, Al. from Panama City, Florida.
My main concern is what school to put Cheyenne in as she will be staring pre-k in the fall. If anyone has any suggestions of some of the better daycares or preschools or private schools that offer Pre-K in the Northport area I would really appreciate it. Thanks in Advance.
Michele

Welcome to Tuscaloosa! I hope you all like it here. Look forward to chatting with you. Sorry, I can't suggest a pre-K, but I'm sure some of the other moms on here can. I haven't got to that point yet, because our LO is only 9 months.

Glad to have you here.
Northport is in the Tuscaloosa County School System and I'm not sure which ones or any have the pre-k program. I do know that the City School System has a program. Your best bet may be to call the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education and see which school you are zoned for and if they have a program like you are looking for.

Welcome to Tuscaloos/Northport. I hope you love it as much as we do!

I agree with absmom about calling the County School Board. They would be able to tell you exactly where you are zoned. I'm pretty sure the county schools don't offer pre-K, but they may know of some good programs in your area.

Hope to chat with you some more on here. If you haven't found it already - we do have a book club - and we try to have regular "Mom's Night Out" with the girls. Maybe you can join us for our next one!

Hi! Welcome to Tuscaloosa - and tuscmoms. I'm a Florida girl myself - I grew up in West Palm Beach.

As far as preks, there aren't a whole lot around here. My 4 year old is in the UA childcare program, which is run like a preschool/prek.

The Capitol School is a montisorri school and it has a great preschool curriculum and goes through elementary school. It's pretty expensive though.

Hey Mickey! We moved here from Dothan, Alabama (where I spent more than 25 years!) almost two years ago, and we like Tuscaloosa a lot. But your post is making me feel very nostalgic, because I spent manymanyMANY days there as a teen. And got into LOTS of trouble, too!
Anyhoo, welcome to the forum and to Tuscaloosa.

I just wanted to thank everyone who saw my post and replied. It looks like I'm going to have to do a little more digging to find a pre-k or a preschool here in Tuscaloosa. I do have another question... Playgrounds? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks,
Michele

Crestmont Elementary in Northport has a really good pre-school program. Crestmont is a somewhat small county school. All of the teachers are wonderful. Also a few good day cares that I know of are The Children's Program on the University of Alabama campus and St. Luke's Methodist. My 6 month old goes to St. Lukes and we love it!
