Ya know, when my girls were little I used to do anything I wanted to their hair for pictures or "pretty" days, but now that they are getting older they hate it. I just tried to "doll up" my 6 year old for school pictures, working hard to get the perfect french braid with matching bows and she yanked them out just before photos. I know this because I work in the school and saw her enter the gym with her hair down and a crimpled mess. I raced to catch her and did another quickie job, not as good as the first. She told me that she liked it down like Trinity's hair (a class mate). I guess she is beginning to want that sense of being like everyone else but I can't get her to keep any kind of hair do that looks cute. Now my 3 year old is picking up on it. Ahhhhhhhh! Should I just cut their hair short and adorable so I can give up this battle?
I'm so glad I have boys! My youngest doesn't even seem to realize that he HAS hair, and my eldest didn't care about his hair until he was at least eight - and even then, he wanted to keep it cut the same way I'd always kept it cut (which was in one of those horrible early 90s bowl cuts ... poor thing!). Anyway, good luck with yours! Andjust hope she doesn't cut it herself one day soon!

DistractedMom, My 3 year-old daughter just did that a couple of weeks ago! She took a pair of scissors and cut some off the front before I knew what she was doing. We were outside, and I had just given my son a haircut and told her she could use the scissors to cut a leaf - not her hair! Luckily I was able to do some damage control and she has a very cute bob now! Thankfully, curly hair is very forgiving!
OhMyGod! LOL! I chopped all mine off when I was about 3ish, & my mom will never forget it (or let me!). She took me to the salon, & they basically had to give me a crew cut to fix it. Too funny. Oh well. It's a good thing hair grows, huh?!

When my 14yo was about 5 she came running to me crying (with tears) "Mommy, some of my hair fell into the trash can!" I was startled. I couldn't see an obvious cut, so I was worried that maybe a chunk had fallen out as she brushed. When I got to the trash, I could see the blunt end of the "fallen hair". Fortunately, it was at the nape and not visible.
We still kid her today about her hair falling into the trash.
I guess the worst hair cutting experience was her cutting the hair of a Pocahontas doll her dad had just brought home from a business trip.
What I forgot to post was that from about second through 6th grade, the only thing she wanted done with her hair was slicked back in a low ponytail. She had an onion head for five years. Now, she is embarassed to look at pictures from that time period. "Why did you let me do that?" She asks. HA! I remember putting her hair up 3 or 4 times before I would get it slick enough. And forget about a bow, ribbon, or even a clip.
FunnyMummy, when my son was about 4 i was washing his hair in the tub and a big clump of hair came out. I totally freaked and immediately started googling about kids' hair falling out. Then it dawned on me that it looked cleanly cut, and after some further inspection and prodding of my son, he admitted he'd cut it himself. It was in the very front and was pretty short, but it grew out eventually.
We do have a place like that here - Kidz Kutz, down 69 south. We've actually taken Anabelle there twice and been really pleased.
Our new dilemma is whether to give her the dreaded bangs. I still shudder when I think of my bangs-gone-wrong hairdo in middle school, and I'm terrified of traumatizing her.
Right now she has beautiful, long, wavy to curly hair that is all one length, but it is constantly in her eyes.
AAAH - boys must be so easy!
