I went to Walmart and bought these sets of sandbox toys. It was 3 toys in a mesh bag for like $2.00. I took the tags off and tied pretty ribbon and a card thanking them for coming to her party around the top of the bag. They were a huge success with the smaller and older children.

It depends on your theme - but one of the coolest things we got was from a party that we went to. She had her digital camera and took pictures of the party girl with everyone as they arrived - or sometime during the party. She had someone print them out before the party was over and put the pictures in a cute little acrylic frame that she had decorated. You can get the acrylic frames at Wal-mart or Hobby Lobby really cheap - and then either hot glue a ribbon border - or use a paint pin to draw something on them.

GG - which kid, Amelia? I guess so, she was the one turning one. LOLOL.

Ok, I'm trying to think back. We bought the little bags that matched our invites - any little plastic treat bags will do.

Then, we went to dollar tree. They have the CUTEST mesh bags that have three rubber bath duckies in them - one big momma duck, and two baby ducks. It's only a dollar. So each bag got that.

They also had cute little animal themed glove/washcloths. You know what I'm talking about? Looks like a glove, but it's a washcloth? Anyway, put one of those in there too.

Hmm .. I'm trying to remmeber what else. We had some older kids, so they got candy and stuff.

Oh, I think individual bags of goldfish snacks.

I love planning parties and favors - LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Ok, tell me if you were talking about Anabelle's. I am quite proud of her favors, but they aren't for a one year old.

I loved the rubber duckies!

I was really thinking of Anabelle's 4th birthday party favors - just because they were soooo cute! You are so good at planning stuff like that out!

Ah, ok. Yes, those were so fun to plan. And actually, you could totally do this for a one year old's party, and just tailor it to the theme.

My four year old had a wizard of oz themed party this year b/c she's in love with the movie. Anyway, I'm not down with filling treat bags with all the sugary candy it can hold, so I tried to be more creative.

I took brown manilla envelopes and filled them wtih a really nice WOZ coloring book that I ordered from barnes and noble (it also tells the whole story), a pack of crayons, and a rainbow lollipop (aka the lollipop guild in munchkin land). I made personalized covers that I glued to each one. I cut the flap off the top of the envelope and hole punched it, and tied it with ribbon.

Here's what the final product looked like:

Alyssa's 1st bdat theme was pretty in pink polka dots. For the favor bags this is what we ended up with. I got some little white cloth bags and painted pink polka dots on the girls and blue polka dots on the boys and wrote their names on them as well with a fabric pen that matched the polka dots. In the bags were handprints they made earlier on the little felt squares you get a hobby lobby, magic towels, i got these at dollar tree, there just these little squares you put in warm water and they grow into a wash cloth. we had little foam stampers, most of these were bday related, like bday cakes, presents and ballons. the boys got thomas the train stickers and the girls got tinker bell stickers. i put a couple of smarties in each bag.(candy) and then we got these grow thingies at micheals. they're really little, you put them in water and they get bigger, the girls had ones little a princess, a castle, mermaid, butterfly, and the boys had ones like, a frog, pirate, pirate ship, treasure chest.

I am trying to plan my daughters first birthday party and it's pretty stressful for me since I've never done anything like this before believe it or not. I'm at a loss about the party favors. I want to do a first birthday princess type theme so I dont know.

Ohhhh....Princess theme...I love it!

Maybe try checking out the $1 section at Target - sometimes they have some cute girly stuff in there, and depending upon the age of the guests you can change them up a little bit.

I would also try looking at Hobby Lobby - or Michaels for some clear cellophane bags - maybe in pink or something to use. You could get some sheer ribbon to tie them up.

Micheals, hobby lobby, and the dollar tree. they have a bunch of stuff. I didn't find much at hobby lobby as far as what I put in my bags.

Mama2Princesa - I noticed in the new KidsLife magazine that Bow Regards has some new princess themed stuff. It may be too expensive to do for favors - but you may want to check some of it out for the Birthday Princess! I noticed a tiara and a wand at least - but they may have more.
Just thought I would pass it along!

I know this is a radical (and likely unpopular idea), but I advocate for skipping the whole goody bag thing. Whenever my son comes home with one, it's full of candy that I generally don't want him to have and junky little trinkets that end up in a give-away bag or the broken in the trash almost immediately. I prefer to opt for one favor that is a little more substantial, like a ball or some other toy that won't break in 5 minutes, or in the case of the princess party something like a crown or tiara like GG suggested. I know that goody bags are like a sacred expectation at parties around here, but I just don't get it - too much junk IMO.

LawMommy - I'm with you on them being filled with junk a lot of times. I do love goody bags though.

We make sure to do them for every party, but we fill them with good stuff. For Anabelle's last birthday (wizard of oz theme), it was a homemade bag with a WOZ coloring book, big box of crayons, and a rainbow lollipop.

Amelia's first birthday goody bags had goldfish snacks, rubber bath duckies, and bath washclothes, and board books.

So, I think that if you get creative goody bags can still be an essential - and fun - party of the party without being junky.

Moozle, those are great ideas! Much more inspired creativity than I have... Smiler
And it is still keeping it small but meaningful.
