From the back of the book: This stunning novel begins on a winter night in 1964 when a blizzard forces Dr. David Henry to deliver his own twins. His son, born first, is perfectly healthy, but the doctor immediately recognizes that his daughter has Down syndrome. For motives he tells himself are good, he makes a split-second decision that will haunt all their lives forever. He asks his nurse, Caroline, to take the baby away to an institution. Instead, she disappears into another city to raise the child as her own. Compulsively readable and deeply moving, The Memory Keeper's Daughter is a brilliantly crafted story of parallel lives, familial secrets, and the redemptive power of love.
They made this into a movie on Lifetime. I watched it about a month ago. It is a great story. I can't wait to read the book! They leave out so much in a movie.

For anyone who goes to Barnes and Noble to get this ... save yourself the trouble of searching the store. They have the book hidden in the back of the store, almost to children's, in the middle of one of the many "summer reading" tables.
It is NOT in the by author section - they yanked them all from there to put them in the summer display.
I can't wait to get started reading!
Jennifer Mom to Anabelle: 3/20/04 Mom to Amelia: 12/20/06 Bitsy the greyhound ... our first baby, and forever in our hearts
Oh my gosh you guys ... I waited until last night to even start this book because I had a feeling it would be a fast read and didn't want to finish too far ahead of our meeting.
So, I started it around 8pm, and finally tore it out of my hands to go to sleep on page 130.
IT IS SO GOOD. Right from the start you are totally sucked in. LOVE IT.
Have you guys that started it earlier already finished it? Who else is reading with us?

Ok - so I finished it last night. The sad thing is that I really had to try to pace myself. I was really trying hard to only read a chapter or two at a time - but I just couldn't put it down!
I can't wait to see what everyone else thinks of it!

I actually haven't been able to pick mine up for a while b/c I had to read another book before I interviewed the author. I'm dying to get back to it. I agree, I think the next discussion is going to be a good one. Is that a new avatar I see, GG? I like it!
