It's been a few years since I've flown. Anabelle flew several times as a baby, but Amelia hasn't yet. And the last time I flew was before all the 3oz rules went into effect regarding carryon items.

We are all flying to Philly next week for a vacation with my friend and her family.

So, I know I can find all of this on the airline websites somewhere, but would rather ask you guys.

1. This no bringing liquids on rule ... that's just referring to drinks right? Can I still bring food? I'm counting on a diaper bag full of pretzels, fruit snacks, rice cakes, and cookies to keep Amelia happy on the plane. PLEASE tell me I can still bring food!!!!!

2. The drink rule - I think I read you CAN bring sippy cups, right? So it would be cool to bring one cup for each girl then? That one isn't a huge biggie b/c we can get stuff mid flight, but I really want a sippy cup for Amelia to suck on during take off. Anabelle can just chew gum for her ears.

3. The 3 ounce thing. I'm not too worried about it b/c we're packing all of our toiletries in our checked luggage. Do I need to be concerned about my purse though? I mean, I have lip glosses, lipsticks, etc. Will any of that be confiscated? I thought I heard someone say that they had to throw out their lipgloss, so I thought it was worth asking.

4. Will the kids have to take their shoes off too?

5. What else am I forgetting? I am bringing Amelia's shot records as proof that she's under 2 (they said that would work as well as her birth certificate).

Any other tips? We'll have Dh's laptop for dvds, and we have headphones and a splitter. I know Anabelle will be fine on the flight, but hopefully movies and snacks will keep Amelia entertained.

Thanks ladies. I feel rusty - my last flight was about 2 years ago, and that was alone - no kiddos to worry about.

We flew last summer to San Francisco with the kids - before that it had been years since I'd flown, so I had no idea what to expect (thankfully my husband wasn't clueless like I was). I can answer some of your questions:
1. Food is fine. I packed loads of snacks in the kids backpacks and in my bag and was very glad I had (airline snacks are junkfood and aren't on your schedule necessarily). I think I've read that yogurt can be a problem, considered a liquid I guess, but solid food isn't a problem.
2. I don't know about sippy cups, but in general there are no drinks at all brought on board as far as I know.
3. I don't know about lipgloss. I traveled just fine with lipstick in my purse.
4. Yes, the kids have to take their shoes off too.

Hope that helps a little, but your suggestion of checking the airline's website is a good idea, as different airlines have different policies about some things. And I think the NTSB might be the place to check for the general guidelines.
Good luck and have fun on your trip!

Thanks LawMommy! I doublechecked the TSA regulations too.

I'm soo glad snacks aren't a big issue - that was what I was most worried about. I'm not too concerned with whether they are healthy - I just need to keep my 18 month old happy with sitting still for hours on end. Which will require pretzels, cookies, fruit snacks galore. LOL.

The drink rule is that if it's in a sippy it's ok. Thank GOODNESS they changed the "taste" rule. Up until just recently if you had breastmilk or formula in a bottle or sippy, either mom or baby had to taste it in front of security . NOw if it's in a sippy it's fine.

I guess I'll empty my purse to be safe. One friend told me they confiscated her hand sanitizer, lip gloss, etc. Hopefully they wouldn't, but I'd hate to lose it.

UGH. So annoying.

It looks like you got your info but I'll throw in my two cents 'cause I fly with Jack all the time (we'll be back on a plane next Tuesday as a matter of fact).

Sippys are OK. Snacks are OK. Yes, babies and kids have to take off their shoes.
I would put your lip gloss in your luggage to be safe. I do. I'd be so ticked off if they took it 'cause it's not cheap (I love Chanel lip gloss - LOL).
Definitely bring proof of age for your LO. I've been given a hard time about that.

Also, a great tip moms gave me when I recently flew with Jack was to bring a NEW toy of some sort and give it to him on the plane. It worked really well and kept him amused for a while. We also do the DVD player. And I bring plenty of snacks and also some books.

I'll be flying solo next week with Jack, a stroller and a car seat! Lord help me! LOL

Kristi - what time do you fly out? Our planes leaves on Tuesday morning. We're headed ultimately to Philly and I can't remember where our layover is.

If you're there when we are and anywhere around us we'd be happy to help you out with lugging stuff!! Seriously!

Oh, that's so sweet of you. But hopefully you guys don't have to get up as early as we do.
We leave at 7:30 a.m.
Ugh!
We have a layover in Baltimore.
If we're there at the same time wouldn't that be funny! When does your flight leave?

Kristi - our plane leaves at 8:40, so we aren't too much later than you! That's pretty funny. Our layover is in Nashville.
