I think I splurged (in my mind) and gave $10. But that was for 4 teeth in one day--two pulled by my son, then two more at the dentist's office the same day. However, with that being his first teeth to be pulled, I had to expain that the tooth fairy was being extra kind b/c the dentist had to pull two teeth--and the roots were extra long! (Yuck)

Have you ever forgot about the tooth fairy and had to sneak $$ under the pillow as you woke them up? I've had to do that a few times. I would just knock the tooth off the bed as i slid the $$ under the pillow and go back to retrieve it later! Although, I had carpet at the time... might not work so well on wood.
