*Wait until your child is at least 9 months old

*Make sure you have no family history of keloid scarring (an overgrowth of scar tissue)

*Make sure your LO has up-to-date immunizations

*Have your doctor do it. You run the risk at those kiosks of getting a gun that isn't fully sterilized

*First earrings should be 14-karat gold or posts of surgical stainless steel
